Yooooooo. The draw a card Dino is crazy with Flame Jab. Adds {R}: cycling to all your lands. This makes me realize that Fiery Confluence is also crazy with that card, cuz I think it's three separate triggers of 1 damage to each creature? Man, that draw dino seems extremely good.

I do agree that it's the sort of effect you do have to cultivate your format a little for. Great with Mystic Speculation, for multiple reasons. Some others: mizzix's mastery Flame jab The not being able to play the lands is a major downside.

Good analysis, and can probably be molded with the general feel of a specific environment's long- and short-game decks. I'm still not certain that I'll end up running this, but I think it'd have a very strong chance of testing well. I don't think I've ever seen a bounce spell used on someone's...

I like the parallel to Unsubstantiate. If I do run it, I'll have this cool bifurcation of Journey + Unsubtantiate, and Roil + Repeal, which seems like a cool split of effects for faster-game and slower-game decks. Nice! Could also see it in place of Unsubstantiate.

I think they serve slightly different roles and deck builds. Better at different points in the game, as you say, ahadabans. Digging down up to three cards is very gassy for a more tempo deck that doesn't want to sit back and slow the game as much, but still needs to keep the gas coming. This...

This is a disperse variant I'm really digging. One of the worst feeling spots is hitting a low drop, it just feels so low impact. Adding in the Scry 2 really helps offset that tempo self-hit. Nice! The only thing is opponent's only? Not sure it's a truly meaningful downside 99% of the time

This is, of course, a valid concern. Getting the land does mean you only spend the same amount of effective mana as Tectonic Edge, so that is helping me keep interest. You can still use T4 and have 2 mana for a counter, and next turn still have your 4 lands to develop to five, for instance...

non-basic-hitting Ghost quarter + untapped-basic-getting Warped Landscape This feels like a ghost quarter effect I might actually run. Getting the basic for yourself (untapped!) is a great upside, and basically jamming two meh lands together into one card seems like a recipe for a runnable...

Some of the confusion in the preceding pages may relate to this. My agro tilts far more T2 than 1. You can do literally nothin T1 (tapped land maybe) and still progress fine.

That's fine. I did agree with you. TBH, maybe I should try the Fugue first, it is a great card.

    General Ixlan Spoiler

There are a variety of formats that have zero use for this, and that's fine. My format has a red 4 drop slot that's been a revolving door of failed attempts, so this is a super exciting (newest) alternative to try. Frenzied fugue is probably slightly better overall for most, but also can't...

My new vote for "most cube playable threaten effect"? I definitely have an underperforming slot that will probably love this.

What I meant was "card we can't stop arguing about into tedium". Regardless of merit. As we still are doing. Onder, you menticing Pyrohemia is a really interesting prospect. Enrage is already a decently universal mechanic, this would be a solid anchor. I think it needs a couple more red enrage...

This seems to be the W-card-of-the-set we all want to run into the ground. Let's let it get tested, and yeah maybe it sucks. At this point it's just "I don't think the back side is worth it" vs. "I think the back side is worth it" so... EDIT: And I do think there is the distinct possibility...

The answer to all is 'yeah, maybe', but I can't know for sure without testing. It feels better than random 2/1 number 6, which doesn't support nearly the range of decks this conceivably can. To me it feels like if you aren't flipping it at any point in the game, some other one drop won't be...

    General Ixlan Spoiler

The really blunt answer is "more than what the slot is doing now (nothing)". Besides that basically all the reasons I've mentioned above. Reach against control, value engine for tempo decks, repeatable bodies for equipment, provide a burst of cost-efficient ramp for midrange decks (UW tempo...

I think its more likely the non-obvious power/angles/layers won't come out in theory-crafting because its a pile of subtle additions, and formats are flexible in ways even the managers don't know. I have at least one {W} slot I feel is not seeing play, so its no opportunity cost for me to try.

Then it must be tested. All of these need to be tested, honestly. They have middling/subpar fronts with insanely high value backs for the mana investment, but in a form we've never dealt with before. FWIW, I do think these should be judged partially on their ceiling. It should be an active goal...

    General Ixlan Spoiler

Realistically, how high does the ceiling have to be?? It's a one mana spell. How high is the ceiling on a vanilla 2/1? It's a body, potential ramp, reach and more bodies into the later game. That's a lot of value for one mana. Decks I see most wanting it are the Young Pyromancer style...
