General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

I just want to take a moment to appreciate how well those two cards work together

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

Exactly why I run Sidisi! I feel like GBU already does a fairly good job with self-recursion of stuff for grinding that advantage. I mean, G&G are an engine piece all in themselves! But in colors, besides the listed Dread Return, you've got recursion stuff like: phyrexian Reclamation Wretched...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

Gias and Geralf are sweet. You only need one zombie to make them "go off" fleshbag marauder IMO, not every multicolor card needs an entire archetype built around it. Just have a nonzero number of properly picked zombies (and fleshbag), and the siblings kinda run themselves. It's a practice...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

Life from the Loam is an odd duck. I feel it's one of a third category of cards in this "dichotomy" of bolts and spice: it's brand loyalty. What I mean is it's a very lenticular card. For someone with relatively little experience feeling out the nuances of a cube environment, it can easily be a...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

Customs not carrying over from CT strikes again. I agree that this is a virtue, but drafting is definitely more technically difficult without clearer signposts. Reminds me of a term RBM has used before that you gotta have signs and lines for your archetypes, to help guide drafters around in a...

    GiftsForgiven's Riptidian Synergy Cube

I like those changes. I think I gotta echo grillo here, and to quote TCgplayer: "Get out and play!" I know it's so tempting to fiddle and fiddle, but I highly recommend you freeze all changes until after you've sat down and ground out those critical first few drafts. You need a non-moving...

General Decks Not Cards--Synergy and Power Design

Neat thread, as usual. One thought I've been having recently while doodling away on CT drafts is that first picks get quite a bit harder in "decks" formats, or can. When the power band is more narrow, it's harder to find clear standouts. This applies also to that emotional thing grillo mentions...

    Nanonox's cube - 450 multiplayer

I've had that same thought. Another way you could switch it up would be to draft Tenchester (Fifteenchester?) with 15 packs of 10, one pick out of each, then dump 7. It's a slightly more cumbersome way to draft, and it's harder to read signals, but it literally shows off all 450 cards of the cube!

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I really want WotC to explore the "rebinding"/"recycling"/"composting", or whatever you'd like to call it, aspect of green more. The depth of cards that interact with lands in the GY is amazingly shallow. So I took a stab at a card I would for-sure play in my environment as a cog in the engine...

    General The Draft Exchange

What a neat looking RG deck! Best deck I've seen for Bushwhacker and Atarka's Command to come outta my cube so far, I think :). Also probably one of the most easily recurrable Vengevines, I can def see T2 Noose Constrictor -> T3 Lavamancer + War Marshal, or something like that. Powered out...

    General The Draft Exchange

Drafted the 3-player cube virtually sight-unseen! Was a fun draft and making cuts was agonizing when it came down to it. First picked Pia and Kiran Nalaar, and soon found myself in RB with two Lilianas almost back to back. I carried on almost certain that Young Pyromancer is more meant for UR...

    Sets Modern Masters 2017 (MMA3?)

I thought for sure they'd skip over Tarmogoyf this year, but my surprise at the card quality in this set continues to grow.... :o EDIT: serious question, is this set starting to look more like a loose cube draft to anyone else?

    Sets Modern Masters 2017 (MMA3?)

The blink exile overrides. It ends up in exile where the blink effect wants it, and it's available to return to the battlefield as normal. Its like, its going to exile anyway, so it all checks out. Same thing works with Obzedat and Whip of Erebos, for another example.

    Sets Modern Masters 2017 (MMA3?)

I like that this one set has checked off almost every single card on my currently-proxied list. Looking forward for some prices to come down in those cards, if nothing else.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

She's one of my favorite too, but she fills a role that's largely superseded by what my {R} and {U} can do for my environment individually.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Jori En has been decent enough over here. Sericeable body that usually draws about a card. Thats a decent ROI, but I can see replacing her with some other effect that I like more in the future.

    General Adapting Morph to cubes

Adding ETB seems like it would bring some balance issues. Is there one 'effect' of choice that doesn't unfairly benefit certain archetypes? You'd either hVe to pick the right effect, compensate with other card choices, or accept the imbalance. I really like the 2/2 bear idea. Reducing the...
