General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

Maybe. I certainly think Exalted is awesome. And I would probably rate Hierarch as better than BOP (exalted IMO is better than flying + tapping for B and R). But it's not that much better. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

I can't figure out this card either. The tutor ability could be amazing, especially in a tempo type deck I'm thinking (something with lots of the same CMC cards and running silver bullet/toolbox type cards). But that body wants to be in some kind of control deck, and there the tutor is going...

I've decided this is awesome and I'm running it. My white 5 section is feeble anyway because I don't run walkers. I'm running Blinding Angel right now if that tells you anything.

I don't see why multiple Noble Hierarch's is broken. I'm not even sure it's desirable since all it really does is make 3+ color decks easier to make (something I abhor personally). It doesn't ramp better than Llanowar. It doesn't fix better than BOP. Yes, Exalted is sweet (and that is...

Damn it. Why can't this have trample?

Thanks Eric. I'm going to find room for Burst Lightning. I can see the flexibility of it and I like that in a cube card. It's hard to see the value of that on paper but that sort of thing really tends to shine while you are playing.

Great list. I also play everything except for a couple. Sell me on Burst Lightning. I feel like there are other things I'd rather slot at 1CC. But I could be wrong about it. And Dread Return is a personal favorite of mine. Getting the flashback is really not that hard to do and it can enable...

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

LOL. My cube is slower than most. Fair enough that Genesis is slow and in a more modern cube, he's probably on the outside looking in at this point. But he represents the power level/speed I'm after. As soon as my cube it too fast or too strong for Genesis to do his thing and be an all-star...

All cards I run and value highly for that reason. This thinking makes sense to me. Unique cards and those that enable strong arch types. For me, Genesis and Karmic Guide are two I would never cut ever.

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

I've cut almost all the power max staples because I want my cube power level lower. I don't disagree with that thinking at all. So a second Magma Jet and Nest Invader are now cards I have on my radar. This is something else I'd like to get input on - cards that are really good (even worth...

Those are the cards I'd like to identify. The Gravecrawler's. Cards that are just so good for cube that not running them is really a mistake unless you are making some crazy tribal cube or something. I agree on counterspell. I think it costs the right amount for the power level of cube...

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

Agreed with everyone here. But even though there isn't technically an unremovable card (i.e. true "staple"), there are cards that most of us run because they are just really solid. And it isn't always about power. Take Gravecrawler for example. Yes, it's a powerful card for a 1 drop, but...

General "Sacred Cow" or "Cube Staple"

So one thing I'm constantly running into (especially with a smaller cube size) are space problems. I see a cool card I'd like to test (something fringe) and I then go check to see if I have room, and low and behold I have 11 "Staples" at that CC. No room. Sigh. I know that there really is...

General Drafting with 6 or fewer players

Our group was doing 4 of 11, which is much better than 3 of 15. 5 packs is a lot and guys lose patience at a certain point (they just want to play). Even 4 packs was pushing things for us anyway.

I like that Rule of Law variant. Hmmmm.... I wonder if I can squeeze that in? Probably not as I don't think I'd run that over Wall of Omens and I'm not sure I want two of those effects in white. Need to think about it.

Free bolts are exceedingly good because you can control the board and also kill your opponent. It's best of both worlds really. A big reason people ran Isochron Scepter for so long was because you could slap lightning bolt on it (well, and counter spell which is probably even better). Now...

You are actually talking me into not liking this card. The more I look at this guy, the more he starts looking like a Titan/walker (unlimited CA engine with no on-going cost). Worse, it's indestructible. This card could actually break my meta pretty badly, especially in multi-player. There's...

I think something like this is slightly more appealing in my cube because I lack most super powerful finishers. UR counterburn I think generally want's something nasty like an Inferno Titan to finish the game. I don't have anything that strong in my cube, so it's not uncommon for the UR deck...

What does UR usually do in your cube FSR? Because I find it durddles a lot in mine and this guy is sort of a perfect fit for the usual deck that ends up coming together (whether that is s good thing or not is certainly up for debate). I might try this guy over Steam Augury, not because...

    General Breaking Singleton

Your point on midrange being easy to draft really hits home with me. And your solution is an elegant one. Even if I take things in a slightly different direction, seeing lists and how you constructed them (in particular, which "staples" have you excluded - this is key because some of these...
