Article Cross-Appeal in Cube — Recipes to Avoid the Pitfalls of Parasitic Archetypes

If you're reading this chipzes, I'm not active on Reddit, but you're absolutely right, I'm talking about self-contained payoffs, not enablers! I changed the article, thanks for the feedback! :) I chose Manamorphose because it's also a {R/G} hybrid card, and because both cards don't increase...

It is unfortunate. I don't know that I'm running into an internal bias though. Mind you, we're both holding on to our own point of view pretty stubbornly, making you no less biased then me, I believe. To me it honestly sounds as if your article and Karsten's article run calculations that...

A CC card is the very opposite of a splash, but I do agree we shouldn't panic about the mana requirements when we are splashing a card. If you have a GW deck running a single Lightning Bolt because you're low on removal, you really don't need 10 red sources. That also has to do with the fact...

Sorry, but hard disagree. I think your reasoning is fallacious. Say you do account for the odds of having your single BB card in hand, prompting you to lower the number of black mana sources you run. There are still going to be a number of games where you will have the BB card in hand on t2, and...

I disagree with this philosophy. You want to be able to cast it on turn 2 if you have it in your hand. The fact that you don't always have it in your hand by t2 doesn't mean you don't want a mana base that can support casting it on turn 2.

It is an excellent card, but you need 14 black sources to reliably cast it on turn two. That's more than a typical two color deck can run, unless you really, really push the amount of fixing in your cube.

Article Cross-Appeal in Cube — Recipes to Avoid the Pitfalls of Parasitic Archetypes

Classic Riptide, I'm not even mad :) You can sort of think of them like that. My own cube has a very high multicolor component, and I try to avoid monocolored cards with a lot of pips as much as possible. In fact, Counterspell is currently my only two drop that has two pips of the same color...

Dutch and Flemish (which is spoken roughly in the northern half of Belgium) are closely related, but they (the Flemish) use the word 'Duikboot' (dive boat). Luxembourgish sounds and looks nothing like Dutch. It's much closer related to German, for example, they also capitalize their nouns, and...

Cross-Appeal in Cube — Recipes to Avoid the Pitfalls of Parasitic Archetypes Magic players regularly complain about archetypes being too parasitic in draft. An archetype is said to be parasitic when it seemlingly stands on its own, requiring a threshold number of specific effects to function...

You. I like you. Don't play Recurring Nightmare though. It's either shit or extremely busted. I feel that card has only a very narrow band where it's a remotely balanced inclusion.

Well, you were asking for a high power format. I don't think it's too miserable though. On its own it can't mill more than 50% of the opponent's deck, over five turns, and only if they don't have anything that can peck away at its loyalty. Most of the time you'll use it as a self mill engine...
