General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Blossom is nothing too great in my Cube, it's not like you have 4x Spellstutter and Mistbind, weird.

    Card/Deck SCD -- Glory

"True glory consists of doing what deserves to be written, and writing what deserves to be read" -- Pliny the Elder So I'm wondering if anyone's made a hole for Glory in their Cube: "Same lettering as on Supreme Verdict ... same colors, too." OK, what I really mean is ... "Hmmm ...

General Variance as a format(cube vs draft)

If you want to maximize the extent to which drafting decisions matter, the difficulty is in sculpting a format where you won't just lose to the Jitte / Skullclamp but also can't just pick the 3-CMC value creature and end up with interchangeable decks. I feel this tension is something WotC has...

    Card/Deck Green Aggro

Yeah, at 4 you get the bulk of Cube's most powerful effects: Sweepers and Walkers. Also a bunch of draw spells that will draw you into more draw spells (to borrow a term from Legacy and Uno, "draw fours") I'm sure some of yall are familiar with the joke about Standard Jund "not doing anything...

    General The Constructed thread

Yeah? Interesting, when I played regular (not Matt Nass landfall, which probably doesn't work with M14 rules nerfing Flagstones) Boros last PTQ season (when I bought sets of Tarn, Flats, Mesa and felt I was being ripped off at 16, 10, 10 apiece) Geopede was just a turd out there. I even played...

General What did you buy for your cube today?

420 is far from a weird number (quite legal out here) as for the number below it, i also owe its discovery to, well, 420:

I think winning on the spot is a fair enough reward for putting that combo together. It's not like nothing's happening until they goldfish you

    General The Constructed thread

Top deck in first post is Young UR. Yep that card is good. The RUG deck a few lists below is Eternal Command, played about a year ago (it's OK) I think Jund Zombies is a known quantity (though one more often seens W for Souls / Sculler)

    Card/Deck Green Aggro

Good discussion on this page. My two cents: classification is a waste of time if you haven't done a dozen other things to tune your Cube (and who has?), but then it becomes mildly useful for one reason: curve. In other words Hannes -- sure, the packs will have lots of variance, but in a 360...

Slaughterhouse-V is OK, as I see it the major accomplishment in it is writing a war novel that was readable. You know how good sci-fi (say, Murakami) and trippy 'conventional' literature (Borges, HST) kind of bleed into each other? I put KV somewhere on that axis. Cat's Cradle is certainly his...

General Cube design and maintaining balance

Yeah, it's discouragingly hard to make a good friend group in paper MTG. I look back on it and doubt it would have all come together without all of the following: living in Seattle, quitting my job, t8ing an SCG Open, and another friend laying much of the groundwork / getting us to go to Vegas...

    Card/Deck [SCD] Dark Depths

I think the way to build the "infinity faeries" combo in Cube (like all combos in Cube) is to not make the cards bad -- as then we'll have a poison-principle half-assed-storm-theme-in-Modo-cube conundrum -- but to make them good. For example! You will not end up with a Kiki-Jiki or a Restoration...

General Cube design and maintaining balance

Hi Dwayne -- every time the conventional Cube community talks about their 'balanced' environment, I think of Fox News and a certain two-mana sorcery. My approach is to invite good players, exhort them to give me honest feedback, and cut the cards they hate or never play.
