Sooo... I this playable if you want to support both Doran and a +1/+1 subtheme?
Crocanura
I mean, Giant Spider is decent enough in regular limited formats, and this is a cheaper Giant Spider?

Seriously. First you guys are yapping about how blue has no aggressive 1- and 2-drops, then you complain that you can't make Cloudfin Raptor work because there is nothing to follow it up with. Are you guys looking for a mono blue aggro deck? Because that isn't...

Watch out for Blood Moon.
Here's another one with creatures that are by and large good without Doran as well. Your list is definitely hinging on Doran staying in play...
I don't know, blue is great in tempo (man-o'-war, evasion, bounce), great in control (counterspells, card draw), and great in reanimator (card filtering). All three of those archetypes play differently.
I don't think a Time Spiral 2 is going to happen any time soon. I do think Evoke and Rebound are both mechanics that will make a return somewhere down the line.
I was lucky I guess. I quit Magic around Torment and started again around Fifth Dawn. Champions of Kamigawa was my first prerelease ever and I picked up Standard again a month after the rigorous affinity bannings :)
Apologies Lucre, I have been in one too many "red is for n00bs, blue is the only color in Magic" discussion plus I sometimes seem to misinterpret your posts. I think it's your writing style that throws me for a loop :) Nothing personal, my internal parser just doesn't always work. I always...
Sure. I just don't feel that drawing your supercharged mana rock qualifies as the stars aligning. Skipping two turns in mana development at the "cost" of one card turns a fine cube draft into the battle cruiser Magic we all know and love from Commander. Oh, except only one player gets to run the...
Well, okay, I was talking about red aggro in particular. I'll concede that white or black aggro decks can usually deal with the first fatty that comes down. Burn is just dead to a Frost Titan though.
I played a bit of Imperial Settlers under time pressure. Didn't get to finish it, but we all felt the game was really fun. Will play again for sure!
Another positive point: while the game didn't feel finished, it did feel like we already accomplished something halfway through. Sometimes when...
Chris is chiming in on the Tasigur vs Soulflayer debate. Tasigur's 5 toughness means he survives the four damage spells, which is a positive thing. Chris then reads the card again and notices that it can only return nonland cards, which makes it much better than he originally thought. I think...
I've grown to dislike Coalition Relic (and Worn Powerstone). What exactly are the aggro decks in a cube like that to do against a turn four Frost Titan? And that's not even close to the worst that can come down at six mana in some cubes (though it's pretty close, Frosty plays a lot meaner than...
A hundred times yes. Withdraw is super awesome. The only reason I cut it is de CC casting cost. Can't have too many of those in a gold-focused cube.
Edit: I once managed to ult Tamiyo with Venser in play, Withdraw in hand, and plenty of mana. Good times, good times.
Hahaha, I just read the flavor text on Disciple of the Old Ways.

I probably shouldn't laugh at the idea of "true nature" ripping little girl's face off and wearing it as a trophy (bunny ears and all). Somebody help me!
