Since we're on the topic of 41 cards smoothing over land-drop-density, don't forget: the statistical likelihood of hitting your land drops with 17 lands on the play is virtually the same as 16 on the draw. Sideboard in/out that basic!
This is a really interesting discussion.
The funny thing is that I still prefer the original, less-planned-out approach to delivering flavor: random instances of magic and monsters in a greater, somewhat opaque world. It gives the feeling of being a visitor in a mysterious place, where each...
New games I played this weekend:
Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar
New expansion for Eclipse
Five Tribes
Two Rooms and a Boom
Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre
I have to say, none of them disappointed. Each was fun in a different way. Five Tribes is the one I'm most...
My gut tells me that the best thing to do is pick and choose which fixing manlands are best for your environment. Given that, I sort of like the idea of giving asymmetry to the final fixing slot of each guild in general. I'd rather run Horizon Canopy over Stirring Wildwood (though I do like...
If Bequeathal had Rancor's recursion text it could be kind of an interesting take on a lower-powered Skullclamp. If you want something more reliable than Murder Investigation, check out Promise of Bunrei. It's pretty solid.
Funny, I was just deciding between these about a week ago. I went...
Yeah, I could see that making it difficult. I'm not planning to run any dual manlands anytime soon, but I do run Faerie Conclave, Treetop Village, Mutavault, four Mishra's Factory's, plus three Blinkmoth Nexus' and Ghitu Encampment in the ULD.
I still think that Thragtusk is pretty busted. I don't know what your power level is, but if it was me, I'd swap out Thraggy, Wolfy, and Pedey for Acidic Slime, Deranged Hermit, and Whisperwood Elemental. They all have more play to them.
Ob Nix fits slightly better in a control-style deck where it frequently would be played as removal first, followed by card draw.
Bloodgift Demon has always been a tough one for me to evaluate since he usually performs worse than I expect him to. Part of the reason is simply that I've become...
I don't dislike SU&SD or their blog, but I've learned that we have very different tastes.
Rahdo from Rahdo Runs Through seems to have the most reliable video reviews for me.
Edit: I wanted to add that I find board game review videos in general to be lacking. I can't put my finger on it, but...
7 Wonders is great! I really need to get back to that game.
I received Tigris & Euphrates and Keyflower: The Merchants for Christmas. I also swung by Barnes & Noble and picked up Codenames yesterday.
