General What other formats do you use your cube for?

I came up with another idea for 1-vs-1 on my morning drive. Begin with a stack of cards. Take the top four cards and put them face down in four piles. Player A can choose (1.) to look at one of the four piles OR (2.) look at the top three cards of the main stack. If (1.), Player A drafts...

A while back I brought up these two oldies: Armageddon Nether Void I distinctly remember a lot of people saying that Armageddon is probably fine these days, but there was universal enmity for Void. I have a personal attachment to Void because A. it's old; B. it has a sweet picture; C. I own...

I like the upside that every instant you can play is now a combat trick. With "if you played another spell this turn...", that would be the only upside when you compare it to Vulshok Morningstar.

ha, I figured you were messing with me. New York is basically the gatekeeper to New England. You can't leave NE without crossing through NY (excluding Canadian travels). NE is comprised of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Yeah I've listened to the album once, and I kinda get that vibe. There are a few standout tracks, though.

Sets [DTK] Dragons of Tarkir Spoilers Thread

I have to agree, it has been better than I had anticipated. My suspicion that Dragons goes better with Fate turned out to be true.

If you want it for control I'd go with factories since they can block and kill 2-power guys and still survive.

    General Fixing the Die Roll

I think we can consider Petal to be stronger in Magic than the Coin is in Hearthstone. It fixes for you, you aren't guaranteed a ramp every turn, etc. How about: Both players begin with 7. The player going second starts with a Gold token in play. Starting player gets to draw on the first...

I love manlands. In my ULD I keep two Mutavaults, two Blinkmoth Nexuses, and four Mishra's Factory's. If you're only gonna run two, I'd do two factories or two mutavaults.

@Meltyman: This was the main point that I was trying highlight. It certainly helps that you've expanded out your themes proportionally, however, my impression is that at that size becomes a lot more difficult to have the same number of cards which can overlap well between strategies. As you...

Knowing that the pieces are there is different than being able to get them, though. As anotak said, having a lot of cards that serve multiple functions goes a long way, and which mode of the card you'll be interested in will be guided by what else gets passed to you. I agree with all this...

This logic is only partially correct. It's true that on average you will see the same proportion of welder enablers, but there is a much higher variance. In a 360-cube 8-man draft, there is zero variance; you are guaranteed to see the expected proportion of welder enablers. In a 720-cube 8-man...

It's important to distinguish between variance and variety. Too much variance will actually punish what variety you've tried to create. I used to have a 720 cube. At that size, you will definitely have a greater variety of unique cards, but it will be much more difficult to actually build...

We've used the term "trainwrecking" before to describe a style of drafting. For example, one might trainwreck slivers in Time Spiral block. As the cards go around, the set of slivers in everyone's packs all stop and pile up in front of you.

Planning a Video Game Night (8-10 people)

This looks like a solid mix. That's bummer about the lack of Dreamcast... Chu Chu Rocket is a blast. I strongly recommend 4- or 5-player Sweet Day on Nintendoland. That's still my favorite group game on the Wii U. Super Mario War is fantastic. Very much in the same genre as Towerfall. We...
