General What are your favorite mechanics that merge Cool Things with Winning Things?

it’s very cool that there is room in the cube world for cubes where tarmogoyf is a ludicrously pushed design mistake and fir cubes where tarmogoyf is a good standard beater at almost exactly the correct power level for the environment.

    General 180-card "Twobert"

that does sound interesting! i went back to jumpstart packs for 2 player cubing after trying a couple grids, it’s just so fast so you get in a bunch more games per session

General What are your favorite mechanics that merge Cool Things with Winning Things?

both! editing to be less glib: the two phenomena feed into each other, and additionally, i believe wizards intentionally drives development of cheap cards to tend towards greater competitive viability than more expensive cards. it just makes sense, why would you want a tournament where everyone...

General What are your favorite mechanics that merge Cool Things with Winning Things?

one thing i’d note is that cheap spells are better than expensive spells, based on non rotating constructed EDIT: hit post by mistake, but that’s my explanation for why double spell is a good archetype in high power cubes. high power = cheap mana costs = easier to double spell. also i can’t...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

yeah you want Night’s Whisper to support creature light control in Bx EDIT- personal pet card Gifts Ungiven also tends to have lots of buddies in black, or you could try Mystical Teachings if your environment is slow enough to support it. but at 2 mana nights whisper is just good sauce

General What are your favorite mechanics that merge Cool Things with Winning Things?

basic Cliff’s Notes for limited: -don’t leave unspent mana on the table -don’t mulligan -don’t draft a bunch of stuff that doesn’t affect the board -do draft a bunch of stuff that can get into play early and get you ahead there’s probably other stuff i forget

General What are your favorite mechanics that merge Cool Things with Winning Things?

You already mentioned most of mine! I also like… “play multicolored spells” on Hero of P1, Niv, and General Ferrous; Delirium/Goyf/Delve as a reward for taking many game actions quickly; stuff with flash and instant speed activated abilities (CLUESSSSS) to reward holding up counter/doom blade mana

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

i tried Grim Discovery for a long time and it was just never all that great. it looks like it would be awesome in double fetch type lists, but if you’re playing with strong cards and strong mana, black wants Night’s Whisper and Painful Truths and Demonic Tutor and Booster Tutor much more than...

    General Fight Club

i think it’s false agency. it’s not so much that you’re going to set up a perfect scenario for it as you’re just going to wait until a couple things die and finally “be able to play it.” you’re more dependent on what your opponent does for it to be good than on some perfect trap you might try to...

yeah there’s gonna be a huge physical problem with trying to wedge adhesive tape way down into a sleeve. you could maybe stripe it horizontally inside the top of the sleeve behind the card if you wanted it more noticeable without making the application process impossible to actually execute.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

i mean, it costs 4 so it ought to be at least kinda stupid. it’s probably really good in mid power double fetch cubes?

Suffocating Blast it’s been ages since i gave this card a single look but i found it in the binder at the game shop and it seems pretty aight? it’s literally counterspell strapped to searing spear! kinda cool!

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Yeah, the basic land typing technically allows me to skip the mana production text, which saves me valuable rules box real estate on the custom lands. (in addition to all the busted interactions basic land typing brings to the table) i have had great experiences so far with running a spread of...

Would Klothys, God of Destiny be less of a bullshit game ruiner if she weren’t indestructible? Would losing indestructible be too much of a nerf to keep her cool and playable at high power? (like fairmax high)
