Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Yeah, combat tricks are more interesting than auras in general, because they provide a lot more play on both sides of the table. I would totally get onboard an equipment theme, if they ever designed enablers and payoff cards for that. And some half decent equipment. I really want to like...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

I don't think Eidolon of Blossoms is that hard to justify running in an otherwise non-themed deck that has some random enchantments sprinkled in. Assuming you can get one additional trigger off it, you're almost in Mulldrifter territory; anything else is gravy. It's also a passable target for...

    Card/Deck Birthing Pod

Yeah, Viridian Emissary is the ultimate punisher card, and those typically aren't where you want to be.

    Card/Deck Birthing Pod

Viridian Emissary is a weird card; it's much better in aggro lists that can take advantage of the 2/1 body, and recklessly send him into the red zone knowing that they'll get some benefit either way. If you just plan to have him sit on defence, though, your opponent can play around his presence...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

I guess I remain suspicious that an aura-based theme can work in any environment outside of a dedicated one, such as Theros block, or an FSR cube. Auras are a narrow card type by design, requiring some specific board presence before they can even be cast, and even when they work it can feel very...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Who knows! I'm hoping my players can tell me. I also tried this card, because I thought it was a great intersection of graveyard + enchantment themes... all it did was kill me via self-mill by 'randomly' returning Satyr Wayfinder to the field three times in a row (!), even though on that last...

General Life Gain as a Thing

I think I'm going to try both of these - they seem sweet, especially in lists that aren't pushing the boundaries of power level. To the folks that run Demonic Pact - how many cards do you typically slot in to reset and/or destroy it? Is zero acceptable? Anyone got any good stories about Pact?

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

For my next iteration of this theme, I think I'll trim out the fat, hopefully keep in all the fun parts, and stop some of the bad cards from tabling forever. Engine + Payoff Eidolon of Blossoms Eidolon of Blossoms Doomwake Giant Assorted Incidental Enchantments in Abzan Myth Realized Curse...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

A couple months on, how are people feeling about this theme? I've run a small enchantress package for a while now, and it's landed with a dull thud. Some of the enablers like Herald of the Pantheon have proven too narrow for a cube environment, as have the win conditions like Starfield of Nyx...

General Ramp as a healthy part of a format

I might not run all five of them at once - a subset of two or three of them is probably more than enough for a cube of your size. Ember Swallower especially is outclassed in a high-powered list. I've never had the same appreciation as you for Vorapede, even when I tried him out myself - there...

General Ramp as a healthy part of a format

Ramp is one of my favourite archetypes in every format - limited, constructed, and everything in between - and that it's usually a tier 3 deck at best always saddens me. I'm a giant Timmy at heart; unlike Dom, it's not creating and playing the land engine that excites me, so much as the payoff...

    General Minor Graveyard Support

I don't really like most of the other Golgari enablers, but like I said, I feel the mono-colour enablers are more than good enough. There's a helluva payoff card they just printed, though: Meren of Clan Nel Toth

Ran Grisly Salvage for a long time - it's super narrow and unexciting to use a gold slot on, which means that this is one of those cards that Tables Forever. While it's mostly stronger than Mulch, I prefer the mono-green land-only variant because narrow cards don't want to be both narrow and...

    General Minor Graveyard Support

Gonna disagree here, Gurmag Angler has been a lot stronger than Tombstalker was for us in cube, and has arguably outperformed even Tasigur. The key is that it's hard for most decks - other than B/x aggro - to muster up {1}{B}{B} on turn three, but a lot easier to get {2}{B}.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I mean, her ability doesn't cost any more than Harness by Force or Mark of Mutiny, cards that a lot of us run. Having a body stapled to those treason effects lets you get in a lot of damage both early and quickly, and then having the effect be repeatable puts it right over the top. Unlike with...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I also vote for both! Satyr Wayfinder is a bit like a Mulch / Sylvan Ranger mashup that's the best of both worlds, and while it's not a high power card, it enables all sorts of fun shenanigans. Meanwhile, Sakura-Tribe Elder is almost a strict upgrade over straight ramp spells like Rampant...

    General [Design Discussion] Perfect Imbalance

Really late to the party here, and afraid I don't have anything useful to contribute, but I do want to put on my mod hat for a second. I'm alarmed at some of the mean-spiritedness in this thread - from one poster in particular - as well as the level of pedantry on display when it's clear that...
