My reasoning is that if eg Maelstrom Pulse is going to be the same as Oblivion Ring 90% of the time, and I run 50 white cards and 4 green/black cards, why take up the space in the gold section that could go to something more interesting.

That card seems completely insane. I have to try it.

I'm surprised to see Murderous Cut on your low power list, as I would rate that comparably to Doom Blade/Ultimate Price/Go for the Throat, or maybe even ahead and on par with Swords to Plowshares. It has no restriction on what it can target and delve gives a lot of flexibility on cost.

I agree with you on that point, the BW tokens was just an example, and in practice people will tend to have multiple different themes running across each colour pair. The "Modern Masters" style of cube design is something I greatly dislike.

Creatures have other benefits as well - at least in my cube, it's a lot easier to tutor for and recur Reclamation Sage compared to Naturalize. (obviously it's very difficult to tutor for Naturalize because it's not in the cube, but if it were)
