Card/Deck Kill it with fire (let's talk removal)

What types of Etb triggers are you thinking of running? The big issues with bolt are its almost nonexistent tempo cost and the instant speed blowouts on combat tricks.

    General "Draw a card."

A lot of these are going to be very meta dependent, but commentary on the cards i've run or thought of running. azorius charm: Narrow because of color requirements, really wants a U/W tempo deck or U/W control deck. Otherwise great. carven caryatid: Good card, but curve dependent on whether...

Card/Deck Kill it with fire (let's talk removal)

That seems like it could be ok. I think the important thing is to have your answers be weaker than your threats (by this approach), and there are a lot of different ways to go about it. ROE did that with cards like staggershock and ulamog's crusher. STB and bolt are probably still too strong...

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

That...is an interesting card. I missed it in the spoilers. I'm not even sure how to evaluate it as its like a reverse armored skaab, which I just added a second copy of. Traditionally, a card like that I would evaluate from that perspective, as a defensive blocker putting flashback cards...

    Innistrad Themed Cube: 360 Unpowered

So, things are wraping up. I'm really pleased with how everything is running, and this will probably be the last big update. Right now I am just looking for weak spots to replace with planeswalkers. This is where the last couple weeks have brought us. Somewhat odd looking changes: no deck needs...

Card/Deck Kill it with fire (let's talk removal)

I somehow forgot these guys. Now including counterspells. Aether mutation and treacherous urge are really good checks against ramp strategies. Famine is the only black pyroclasm I believe (three to each creature and player). aether mutation lapse of certainty force spike mana tithe...

If you are looking for a guy to stall the board, he is a great choice, and fits nicely on the curve.

I'm not quite sure if you're willing to slum it at my level, but if you are, I can only promise you the best of the bottom of the barrel in conditional removal. First off, pacifism effects pacifism arrest prison term faith's fetters lost in thought melancholy guard duty bonds of faith...

Because the format is based on innistrad, it necessarily has bad removal: So I have cards like this for answers: prey upon vanishment act of treason If you take a synergistic approach to your deck, they can become incredibly powerful as removal pieces, with cards such as the below...

Yeah, I think the lower power level of my format may have gotten around that. It tends to be more about synergistic board states so it naturally encourages experimentation. Also, when you have really low power removal that helps a lot: players don't have to worry about their creativity being...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I guess the way that I look at it, is that if you view thrun through the spectrum as a midrange "check" on control strategies, you end up in the whole roshambo system of checks and balances anyways. I like to look at it more through the spectrum of there being an arms race between answers and...

The art is pretty bad also as it looks like he just jumped out of a plane, forgot his parachute, and is about to pancake the street.

i.m.o hexproof can be unhealthy in an environment where it leads to games that feel unfairly non-interactive. It can be healthy where it’s a beatable incentive for slow durdle decks to remember they need to develop their board, or where it is conditional. The key thing is that I don't want...

I would rather run troll ascetic as a non-conditional hexproof creature than thrun. Ascetic's two toughness makes having regeneration mana up a real issue, the three power provides a meaningful incentive to combine him with creature buffs, and his place on the mana curve is perfect for creating...

You'll have to give me a little bit more time before I can come back with concrete antidotes. I run two of them, and thus far every time they show up in the draft they are picked and make the final 40. However, that is mostly because the card represents design space to explore in a cube that has...

I think he is pretty reasonable. If he is not dealt with he takes over the game, but he doesn’t shut it down immediately. He also has a balanced EOT trigger to make the mana investment somewhat worthwhile if he gets killed immediately (and the regenerating makes that hard to do a lot of times)...
