Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I've worked a bit more on my red creatures. I'm very happy with my 3-drops but the others could see changes. I decided to add Seasoned Pyromancer. Seasoned Pyromancer Seems like it's in a good spot to support several decks in the cube. His addition pushes me to 31 creatures, but two of them...

I like Golos and I like Crystalline Crawler, but I don't like the other cards very much. I think playing an extra land every turn is not very useful at 2G and Chromatic Lantern is a bit too dull for me. Chamber Sentry is very clunky and very mana-intensive too. But I do think something similar...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I think the disruption is the most important part of that deck. The problem with green, creature-based decks is that their spells do not interact with the opponent´s plan. But this list has quite a few spells that do, even the Voracious Hydra matters. I've gone back and forth on the third...

I've been thinking about weird cards. I wonder if someone has found a place for this in cube: Food Chain My gut tells me it's less useful than Phyrexian Altar but the design is very cool.

Crawlspace is a nice design, but two creatures is too much, as is three mana. I tried Silent Arbiter and it never worked. It's expensive and if they can remove it you get punished hard. I never found many decks that actually wanted the card.

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I just drafted this very neat deck on CubeTutor and I wanted to share it here: www.cubetutor.com/cubedeck/1243378[/url]"] Ones 1 Elves of Deep Shadow 1 Llanowar Elves 1 Retrofitter Foundry Twos 1 Gather the Townsfolk 1 Imposing Sovereign 1 Kor Skyfisher 1 Lotus Cobra 1 Scavenging Ooze 1...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

By the way, I want to note: All removal in the cube is a placeholder. Its power level is way higher than it should be and it probably makes all those nifty decks and large creatures unplayable in practice. I'll tone it down once everything else is sorted.

Fire Imp works, but it's a very uninspiring design, the real card doesn't match its functionality and it's pretty much a small Flametongue Kavu. In other words, It's a purely aesthethic issue hahaha The problem I have had with broad archetypes is that they weren't truly broad. As in, they...

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

It's L5R tournament season and I have a very strong deck so I'm not much into Magic lately. Still, working on the cube is fun so I decided to steal some ideas from Inscho again. I first looked at aristocrats support and it doesn't seem like there's a large difference between what he and other...

nightmare shepherd How powerful or snowbally is this guy? I've never seen him in action because I've killed him on the spot every single time in Standard but it seems extremely strong with the proper support. Thoughts?

Arcbound Ravager is such a cool card...sadly, I haven't been able to make it work. You need quite a lot incidental artifacts or a focus on artifact aggro/counters to make him worthwhile. In the end, I found he asked too much. Very neat card, though.

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

So I've been tweaking cards here and there. No big changes, a few cards coming in and out, the usual. The issue I see is that I don't really know what I'm doing on a design level. That is, I can tweak cards one by one and see if the cube improves. But that's slow and not really all that well...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Exactly. While it will happen sometimes, I don't think it will happen very often. Three creatures is a lot, spercially if you want to lean higher on the mana curve as GR usually does. And if she might trigger, your opponent might just shoot her with a Firebolt before she can provide card...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Ultimately, the issue with Gallia is that, most of the time, she's a 2/2 haste. Which is a surprisingly good floor, mind you. But my experience with Robber of the Rich has really soured me on potential advantages on haste bears.

    General Small archetype packages

Yes. So it may not actually be a full archetype as much as it is a package, but it's fun. Interestingly enough, I got to it naturally. Some Riptiders actually support the archetype in a more directed manner.

    General Small archetype packages

Earlier this morning I noticed I had added a small archetype in my cube without meaning to. And it made me think of small archetype packages that can be implemented in most cubes without radical changes. Do you have any that surprised you? BERSERKERS Fencing AceSolemn Recruit Stoneforge...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yawghmoth's Will is surprisingly fair and even weak in cube. The reason is simple: It costs 3 mana. There are not a lot of spells that are worth playing at that cost, Regrowth is already kind of questionable. Still, it's a fun card that is worth exploring. It's good enough with a Ritual, a...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I have the same issue. I'm not fully happy with Fire Imp and having to run the online version is a bit of a bummer, but he IS blinkable while most other cards competing for his slot aren't.

Glare is strong, but it's a gold 4-coster. Furthermore, GW is a weak colour combination with very little disruption. That said, I would only put Brago as a stronger multicolor card in your cube, at least at first glance. Oakhame Ranger is terrible. It was very bad in limited and, when you...
