Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

I've finally decided to abandon the +1/+1 archetype. While it gave a much needed identity to GW, it was very closed on itself and ended up feeling parasitic. None of the cards involved in the archetype helped the other colours, or forced me to make significant changes that worsened them. Most...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Living Death is a very powerful card even if you don't build around it. You can slam a copy in the average deck of The Rock and have it win games. In fact, it was played in The Rock back in the day, without any graveyard shenanigans whatsoever. The trick is that it's strongest when you are...

    General Fight Club

The issue I have with the design is not that it makes the card as powerful as Treachery or as weak as Great Whale, but that the card undercosts itself as part of its effect. I don't think a 4 mana Planeswalker should have 2 mana rebate, even if it's not as powerful as a full rebate would be...

    General Fight Club

I heavily dislike Garruk's untap ability because it halves its cost in the same way Treachery's untap ability makes it free. Like I mentioned in another thread, I still don't know why Wizards finds the "free mechanic" acceptable in Planeswalkers but Garruk is not the only offender. Beyond...

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

Sorry! But, truth to be told, I don't know what direction to give to GW. I tried +1/+1 counters but found it parasitic and not that fun.

    General "Looking for a card"-Thread

I'm looking for cards that support GW decks but aren't gold cards. It seems to me, GW is one of the weakest colour pairings and lacks the best of both colours, with a handful of exceptions (Lands.dec). So I'm looking for generic cards that can help the pairing.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Given Wizard's increasingly questionable definition of "Island", is that wrong? =P Nah, I feel you.

They would be cheated into play (via Sneak Attack, Reanimator) or ramped. Ultimately, it's a I-win button. The sensation is that you have been playing a nice game, then your opponent plays this and the game ends. So yeah, now that I've written that, I don't know why I'm trying to make them work.

    General Fight Club

Here's another one of my own, to add to Mondschwein's question: Which one is less powerful? Craterhoof Behemoth or End-Raze Forerunners Or, in other words, which one of these is the less dumb Overrun variant?

    General Fight Club

Ritual goes in more decks, is cheaper and has more play as it works both when destroying other player creatures and your own. I'm also not sure Aristocrats wants to be BG and get up to 5 mana even if it wins the game. As for the later, I'm not fond of either card. They are very much the kind...

General Cube cards - Negative Surprises

Let's create a counterpart to Ravnic's Positive Surprises thread: Which cards you expected to perform well or lead to interesting games only to find them dissapointing or game-ruining? Massacre Wurm At first I thought this card was similar to Crater Hellion, which I was very happy about...

General Cube Cards - Positive Surprises

Gilded Drake I expected this to be either abusive or narrow. Turns out a larger number of decks than I thought are interested in it and it's good, but fun instead of abusive with blink, Waterfront Bouncer and other tricks. The trick is that you can work to get a good deal out of it, but your...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Let's give it a try, then. I'm trying to push a little for more spells-based decks to broaden the playability of some cards and he seems worth a try. Requiering a density of instants is a pretty big limitation, though. Here's a fairly controversial pair of cards I'm not sure about: Mishra's...

General [WAR] War of the Spark

I don't have any planeswalkers on my cube but I must admit I'm tempted by Saheeli quite a bit. It's a fun design, even if she's a token creator more than an ability-driven card.

Erik's "The cool side of Magic" cube

That's actually pretty nice. It's actually the same on a power level (one card per turn), but it's clean (cleaner than "at the beginning of your upkeep", even) and I don't think the synergy with untapping is at all bad. At least as cube goes. I would be tempted to run something of the sort if I...
