Yeah, like I made clear before (:)), not everything should be kicker or split cards, but cleave definitely should have, in my mind. I don't think this mechanic will go downin history as a success, and I expect it to score really high on the storm scale eventually.

It is but I hate it. This would have been so much more elegant as an actual split card...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

As I said in my original post that sparked this discussion, you did help :) I didn't have the time to look for suitable art yet, but I really like the elegance of your Beast Summoning suggestion.

I firmly belief you should be able to call out a person's actions without condemning the person themselves. I can not tell you how to feel, but I can tell you what my intent was, hence my elaboration. If I think a friend does something silly, I will tell them that to their face, but it's...

The horse actually belonged to a cathar on a recon mission, and the saddlebags were full of field reports! Sadly, they were sprayed with some scorpion poison, so you got hurt as you rifled through them.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Yes, I would. And you would see in my eyes that there is no ill intent behind these words. You know I cannot possibly know whether the pattern was intended by WotC with certainty, so why do you ask me if I do? That's why I called your question (note: not you) silly. Moreover, can you explain to...

That's just because that's an easy way to represent a fraction. You can easily see this need not be the case, for example: (2 / 2 = 1) is equivalent to (2 * 0,5 = 1) There, no division symbol used ;)

This is a silly question. I wasn't involved in the design or development of Strixhaven, so of course I do not know "with certainty" that I understood that reason. However, I see a very clear pattern, and I see absolutely no urgent reason to deviate from that pattern.

Correct. Technically, substraction is negative addition, and division is fractional multiplication. However: There's a reason substraction and division (on the left) as a concept are a thing. They are far easier to parse than their alternatives (on the right). They're also functionally...

I appreciate the thorough response, and I agree, communicating is much easier when it's done in person! I feel your pain, but if we are going to compare this to programming, kicker is like a function 'math' that just does everything math-related. That would make using it so hard that it's better...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

That's not the point I was making. Inkling Summoning summons an Inkling, Elemental Summoning summons an Elemental, Pest Summoning summons two Pests, Spirit Summoning summons a Spirit, and Fractal Summoning summons a Fractal. Each of these five cards summons a token with the exact same name as...

    Sets (VOW) Crimson Vow

Uh... wow. There's a lot to pick apart here. Just because it works for you (or you think it works for you), doesn't mean it's better if they called everything kicker. Yes. The word "kicker" conveys no flavor at all. It's a word that mechanically describes what happens (using this meaning of the...

MaRo has gone over this in his "everything is kicker" explanation. The problem is that kicker is too broad, and it helps the flavor and design of a set when a more narrow variant is used. See here (scroll down to Kicked When You're Down). Note, this was written in 2007! And people are still...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

The pattern in Strixhaven is "<creature type> Summoning" creating tokens of type <creature type>, so it should be called Faerie Summoning. Finding art for two {u/b} faeries is hard, and I'm not about to commission some for my cube. I love Brian Froud's art, and this is just a good excuse to use...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Actually, Nightmare Summoning creating Nightmare tokens would work just fine. It's just that this token doesn't gel with any of the themes present in my cube. I've actually looked at existing tokens, I could try to work with what there is, I suppose, but there just isn't a lot that I really need...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Not that I'm a big fan of Vex, but it is the only unconditional hard counter for {2}{U}. Just to be clear, would you call something like Thoughtbind a hard counter? It can't target everything, but there's no escape clause if it can target. Also, what about something like Lapse of Certainty? It...
