Just thinking about it this morning: converge means moving towards a single point. Surely the mechanic asking you to spend mana of different colours should be called diverge?

Yeah but it was called the legacy cube because it adhered to the legacy banned list, rather than having any playstyle relationship to the format.

I read this the other day and I thought I had been linked from here, but apparently not. Here's the Great Designer Search entry where the competitor, Jon Loucks previously of Limited Resources, makes this exact mechanic almost five years ago and it is almost universally poorly received...

It seems bizarre they would introduce something this impactful - the "sixth colour" - in a small set.

I want to find someone else as insane as me to do a full 8 person team rotisserie draft, except each team is just one person and they have to draft 4 decks each. Alternatively, 1v1 team rochester draft.

It feels like this is an EDH cube built by people who don't really understand the appeal of either EDH or cube.

I mentioned this in the draft last night but I think Anathemancer could be worth a shot.

For the second match I cut the treasure cruise and played volt charge instead. 16 lands was probably too ambitious.
