    General Broad Archetypes

That is a good angle that I didn't think of. I'm also thinking about GY tokens as a possible theme for Abzan. But all that is secondary to my question. Do you think that in a broad archetype, separating the colors into shards/wedges is deep enough or do you go by guild or more generally by...

    General Broad Archetypes

I'm necroing this thread since I have a relevant question (I think)! When designing your broad archetypes how deep do you go? For example I'm making a broad token theme in {W}{R}{G}{B}. What I've done is lay out more or less what cards I want to include and from there a few sub-themes emerged...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

Deed is super high power level. You can always adjust the numbers so you get out ahead with very little effort. A great wrath in Golgari is Find // Finality It is so flexible as a hybrid and is decent enough even without the finality part. It also lines up with you other wraths (similar to a...

Edit: oops Mondschwein beat me to it. Approach of the Second Sun Does this fit the bill? I find it unique and it's fun to try and maximize it via mill, scry, draw, tutors or what have you. It pushes you into a controlling deck which is pretty much the opposite of weenies. Auriok Salvagers...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think the card can be good, but what bothers me is the fact that the text on the card inspires me not to go blink! I know the oracle text says "enters the battlefield" as opposed to "from your hand" but unless your drafters know this, it won't necessarily go into the decks you intend it for...

    General Archetype Shapes

Man you guys are so annoying! japahn posts an awesome text and dbs follows with a great one as well, but going in a different direction. Now I actually have to think! I am curious though, how many of those broad 4-5 color archetypes does your cube support dbs? And how broad? By that I mean is a...

    Highball: Legacy of the Rails

One interesting direction for white that is similar to blink is ETB cast triggers. It requires a bit more work, but I find it to also be more rewarding. Payoffs Oketra's MonumentTeshar, Ancestor's ApostleShrine of Loyal LegionsSyndic of TithesAnafenza, Kin-Tree SpiritBygone Bishop Enablers...

    General Fight Club

Not really, but a few cards care about actually casting artifacts such as Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle, Sai, Master Thopterist, Traxos, Scourge of Kroog and potentially Welder + Daretti to weld it back in. What I'm actually thinking about is Tezzeret, Artifice Master It makes thopters and...

    General Fight Club

Interesting, as I saw Bident as a less narrow card than just evasion decks: Payoff for tokens as it draws a card for each creature dealing damage (where Network is capped at 1 no matter how many attackers) Value from my random assortment of utility creatures/mana dorks (functions like a second...

Bident of ThassaThopter Spy Network I'm seeing pros to both of these cards and really cannot decide. Bident Is an artifact (for Teshar, Sai, ...) Can draw multiple cards In a MP game, can leave a player wide open (though this is rarely used) Network Creates a board out of almost nothing...

    The Train Station

Funny you should post this as it's something I've been struggling to formulate something coherent about green artifacts (and more) for a while. Your green +1/+1 counter post was spot on and better than anything I could have posted. What I wanted to expand on is how to make some of the cards you...

    Sets (MH1) Modern Horizons Testing/Includes

I'm pretty happy with what red got in this set. I was looking for non Goblin Welder/Daretti, Scrap Savant ways to abuse the graveyard and I think the cards below help with that. Almost 100% Seasoned Pyromancer: Looting (or better), tokens and flashback. This will replace Wheel of Fortune which...

I find it helps to categorize the graveyard payoffs by what they actually do (I realize that most of these have been mentioned!). That way you can get a good idea of what decks you are looking to build and can mix and match the most relevant ones to your themes. GY spells payoffs (mostly blue)...

    General Community cuts thread

@Erik Twice Two suggestions: Vampire Nighthawk Not that the effect isn't good, but I see you have an Avatar of Woe, Tombstalker, Laboratory Maniac, ... I suggest you use a Stinkweed Imp instead! Ivory Tower Unless you have the Antiquities version, it's hard to justify this one for me...

    Estoril Cube

Just wanted to share a post that helped me along my cube journey. I had the same idea as you, supporting all 10 shards/wedges, but it is a lot. Check out the arguments here: https://riptidelab.com/forum/threads/cube-archetypes-help.1992/ Happy cubing!

How many cards do you usually discard to it? I could see it as a speed bump to ensure the win, as a reset button for when behind or a wrath for when you have the biggest butt on the battlefield.

Looking to spread the Stax archetype to red and hopefully a tie with lands. All I have is Wildfire. Should I double up on it or are there alternatives? Edit: I like the idea of Devastating Dreams but the random discard really scares me. Any experience with the card vs Wildfire?

I'd lean towards the Cemetery as well. I like that it's reliable independent of your opponent's deck. I have one myself Laboratory Maniac vs Jace, Wielder of Mysteries The reason I'm hesitating is that one is "only"a payoff, but a much better CC, while the other is a payoff and enabler...
