I'd lean to heckbent. Spectacle kinda means "I'm winning" most of the time, whereas you can actually redeploy dread wanderer when you're behind on board.

We're approaching peak Mark Rosewater in this set, between the oozes and the puns :P I do like this card though. It's quite vulnerable, but it grows horizontally and vertically, and triple green isn't too easy.

Hell rider is much closer to the average power level of my cube than hanwier battlements

Also a consideration: Garrison can meld with a land. However: I've run both as a squadron pick, and at one point our red drafter had both in play, with enough mana, and it was right to play hell rider instead. That's a pretty big knock.
