Card/Deck Someone sell me on Birthing Pod (but first, long backstory)

I think it's actually the opposite of oppressive, whatever that may be - it doesn't actually do much of anything in a variety of green decks, as it's card disadvantage if you're either creature-light or just haven't drafted a curve with hits at every stop. Again, this is a card that scales well...

yeah, at this point, i'm convinced that green is dead last in army-in-a-can spells... which is a real shame as it's supposed to be the "creature" colour, and a lot of people (myself included!) try or tried at some point to support G/X tokens, usually with zero success

Yeah, put me on the Wolfir Silverheart hater train. He isn't that different from Baneslayer Angel, actually - a pure removal check that pretty much puts a halt to any interesting interactions the game might've had up until that point, and turns everyone's attention to his big butt. I've actually...

Double Ninja of the Deep Hours - a man after my own heart! Don't let anyone talk you out of that card, it's the bee's knees.

Card/Deck Someone sell me on Birthing Pod (but first, long backstory)

You basically want a heaping handful of persist and undying creatures to support Birthing Pod. Folks who have had the most success running multiple Pods also run multiples of Kitchen Finks, Murderous Redcap, and the like. Lots of ETB and leaves battlefield creatures - your Blade Splicers, Voices...

As far as nine mana green spells go, I've run both of these before and I quite liked 'em Tooth and Nail Genesis Wave

Faithless Looting is really awkward in cube, because even for those of us who support graveyard strategies, they tend to be centred around black, blue, and green; red and white are usually on the outside, looking in. Unless you support some kind of red flashback archetype, or somehow stretch...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, for whatever reason, Soul of Shandalar is the one I had the highest hopes for, which made it all the more disappointing when he didn't live up to his potential. There are just so many red fives that are stronger, and fit into more decks. Right now I've replaced that slot with Caldera...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, as excited as I was about the Souls - I tried all except the blue one! - I've been disappointed with all of them, and they've slowly exited my cube. Soul of Theros is the last man standing, as it were, but as he's been aggressively mediocre even in my fairly low powered environment, he...

The Interwebz says Sword of the Animist is really good in EDH, but I still don't get it. Is it cause everyone has infinite time to durdle, and amassing a huge stack of basics is a good plan?

    The Board Game Thread

Yeah, it's the quick & dirty card-only version. After about a dozen games of San Juan, though, I'm starting to feel it doesn't have the depth nor balance of its predecessor. There's a couple of strategies that are just plain traps, and are nearly impossible to win with; this leaves only a very...

Yeah, that's a good point. It might enable something really sweet when the next block rolls around, so if you're on the fence, maybe $5-6 is a reasonable price in case this shoots up into the stratosphere later...

I'm thinking it's bad because Leonin Scimitar is bad, and the Rampant Growth effect isn't enough to make up for the more expensive equip cost, because the lack of evasion means you might still be binning your equipped creature after every combat step. I've love to be wrong, though! edit: after...

I'm like Onder - pretty much every set, I preorder selectively, mostly cards under $5. I'm holding off and hoping that the likes of Woodland Bellower and Kytheon go down after a little while, but Molten Vortex probably isn't getting any cheaper. There are a lot of cards I wish I'd preordered -...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

Yeah, I get that... but the fact that, on the draw, Shambling Ghoul can't block until your opponent's turn four (!) makes it pretty mediocre at that job, in my eyes.

I don't think Chandra's Ignition will prove to be too good; if anything, it might turn out that it isn't good enough. Like with Wildfire, you still have to set up your board in a profitable state, which can often be easier said than done. Of course, having enough instant speed removal will make...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

They're not exactly the same, but wouldn't Thrill-Kill Assassin be better in most situations? A 2/3 deathtouch attacker would get past a lot of early defences, while a 1/2 deathtouch blocker would stall the ground pretty effectively.

    Sets [ORI] Magic Origins Spoilers

Yeah, I agree - without having played or even seen the card, I'm actually pretty excited about Chandra's Ignition. It's secretly the second Wildfire that no one knew we wanted. It's a wrath effect that requires a board presence, but should ensure that you're left with the one creature standing...

I'm kinda with FSR; though Acolyte of the Inferno is a pretty interesting red three drop with a novel ability, most cube three drops these days need to do more than just attack or block. With a few notable exceptions - guys that get genuinely huge, can both attack and block well, or have...
