General Building cubes for newer players, Cubing minimalism

Yeah, absolutely. The only question is whether you have the time and energy to manage two cubes, as thinking about designing even one cube can consume a lot of mental space. Personally, I decided it wasn't worth it, as the M13 set cube is just a diversion I bust out every now and then to train...

General Building cubes for newer players, Cubing minimalism

I'm gonna spout the same answer I do every time - a set cube of your favourite core set! Mine's M13. There's a surprisingly amount of depth, enough that veterans won't be quickly bored - this is the set with the Roaring Primadox/Bond Beetle synergy - but it's still straightforward enough that...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, that's a great, interesting observation. Make equipment too good, and you run the risk of decks of all shapes and sizes running it for pure value (Sword of Feast and Famine and Batterskull being notable culprits here). Make equipment too bad, and no one gives it a whiff. It's really hard...

    Card/Deck Bounce

I'm maybe the world's biggest Into the Roil fan, but I think it's more of a control card than a tempo card.

    Card/Deck Bounce

This is certainly true, but these decks still want about ten or twelve creatures, and it's really backbreaking for the opponent when many of those creatures also confer a tempo advantage. I guess I'm trying to say that these things aren't mutually exclusive - you can run both Aether Adept and...

    Card/Deck Bounce

My favourite bounce spells in this kinda UR tempo deck are the ones on a stick Man-o'-War Aether Adept Venser, Shaper Savant Mist Raven Riftwing Cloudskate

you could probably make the tokens 3/1 with haste, and it still wouldn't be overpowered

Onderzeeboot's Khans of Alara WUBGR Cube

I don't, and I agree it's pretty weak - Crystal Ball is no one's idea of a cubeable card, and the much-harder-to-cast Ascendancy is only marginally better. On second thought, probably any graveyard filler is better, i.e. Grisly Salvage.

Onderzeeboot's Khans of Alara WUBGR Cube

Is Mimeoplasm an option? As reanimation on spells go, he's pretty good value for five mana, and fits into the graveyard theme I'm assuming you'll have. While Sultai Charm is efficient and versatile, I actually think Sultai Ascendancy is a better build-around, and signals the supported theme...

    Rasmus Riptide Cube (360 Unpowered)

Yeah, FSR hit the nail on the head. Putting three of the most important one drop in each colour gives that aggro strategy a strong definition, and tells your drafters that the archetype is strongly supported. At the same time, though, Delver of Secrets and Cloudfin Raptor are almost a complete...

    FlowerSunRain's Cube

That actually sounds reasonable, because you're running lands in a completely separate draft still, right? I think most cubes around here are in the 47-50% range for creatures, but lands comprise anywhere from 11-14% of the cube. In my own cube, 57% of all my spells are creatures, but they count...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

That's... that's not bad at all. I agree that Lotus Petal would be better in Magic, especially considering the number of times I've been stuck with a five or six mana sweeper in hand, but was one mana short of casting it, and took a bunch of extra damage before I peeled the final land. Maybe...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

Whoops, I think I confused myself. The way Hearthstone works, both players draw on the their first turn, but the second player's starting hand size is four, rather than three. In Magic, the first player already skips their draw step. So the way I'd proposed to simulate this would be to instead...

    General Fight Club

Yeah, all of your strong arguments above are why I've always been a fan of small, tighter lists (<= 450), rather than the giant, sprawling, MTGO cube lists. In defence of their cube, though, that list probably gets run hundreds of thousands more times than our lists do, so having a greater...

    General Fixing the Die Roll

I really like mtggoldfish, but I no longer believe in their methodology or their results. For limited formats, they frequently seem to report that being on the draw will lead to a higher win rate. If this is true, everyone - especially pro players - should have come to the same conclusion, and...

    General Fight Club

i'm not following standard closely at the moment, but i suspect the prevalence of tokens (and that being the de facto aggro strategy, outside of RDW) has something to do with it what's something a Mardu Woe-Reaper really doesn't want to see? two soldier tokens or three goblin tokens
