Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Yeah, I agree that Wildfire is fantastic when you're slightly ahead, because it turns that tenuous advantage into a dominant position. I just don't like cards that are only good when you're already winning, even if they cement your board state, because they don't help you get into that position...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Not to sidetrack too much from the Fires discussion going on, but after a pile of mock drafts of my own list on CubeTutor where I forced the Gruul archetype, I've come to the conclusion that the weakest card in the Wildfire archetype is... Wildfire. It's just not a card that I see myself taking...

Ah, I wouldn't go that far. While it's true that the large majority of cubes on this site don't subscribe to the power max doctrine, I'd actually love to see more people experimenting with that segment of cube design. While I haven't liked any of the high powered cubes that I've seen or played -...

Decks with so many small critters often need space for anthems and combat tricks too, though. Not to mention it's a stretch for someone to even draft that many weenies, let alone run all of them. As promising as it reads, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Collected Company isn't a...

Same. Anafenza seems like a contender for the best {W}{W} bear at this point, so anyone interested in white weenie is probably going to run her. Kitchen Finks is a sweet card, but because he's so ubiquitous - he's nearly colourless, in cubes with good fixing - I wouldn't be opposed to cutting...

I was just having this same thought as well. Assuming you already run something like Harness by Force, it seems like Jeering Instigator would be more interesting and versatile than a second straight up treason effect like Mark of Mutiny.

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

This is probably the closest thing to "Fires on a stick", but I'm not sure if it meets the bar Hammer of Purphoros

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Personally, I feel like this does the best Fires impression in cube, as midrange decks aren't usually playing more than one beefy creature a turn anyways Lightning Greaves

I mean, he certainly fits into the Gruul Wildfire deck I'm trying, so! It's a little weird how similar he is to the green {5}{G}{G} fight dragon, though, given that they're in the same set. I realize that this guy offers dividable burn, and that he also has trample and two more points of...

    Card/Deck Vamps

I think he's referring more to the recent comments on the /r/mtgcube subreddit, where it seems we have a somewhat positive reputation. They don't hate us over there!

same - i was actually really disappointed when you posted that in the spoilers thread and i realized it wasn't a real card :(

General What other formats do you use your cube for?

Rochester sounds like a great idea. If you want, you could take it one step further and randomly axe one or even two colours from your cube beforehand, to ensure that there's plenty of tension to the picks.

I think I'm with you on this, as far as Narset's applications in cube go. She seems at her best in sixty-card decks, where you can have the hit rate on her +1 ability approach 50%, but the same ability seems a little more dicey in forty-card decks. Chandra, the Firebrand is a good comparison...

yeah, four mana walkers that don't defend themselves have traditionally been bad, but being able to start at 7 (!!) loyalty might offset that weakness entirely

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Yeah, I think the crux of the problem with this colour pair is that the best Gruul gold cards fall into either of the two categories of a) Sweet Zoo Cards, or b) Sweet Generic Midrange Cards. i'm as devoted a member of Team Volcanic Hammer as any, but i'm coming around to Lucas's perspective that green, more than any other colour, most needs instant speed tricks to give it more game and prevent all its decks from congealing into similar, predictable midrange decks if the two blue...

Super stoked for exploit cards! I love sacrificing as a cost as it's typically lackluster when played without any synergies, but becomes very good with them. Rebound returning is just about the best thing ever. I hope it helps cement white as part of the 'spells matter' colours alongside blue...
