Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I think this is very much on the money, and probably why no one has really had much success with Wildfire archetypes in general, and in particular on this forum. Aside from destroying lands, which hurts decks slower than itself, the archetype would need a way to curb aggressive starts from the...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

This is looking more and more like a card that could work in both RG Wildfire and in BG graveyard shenanigans. I don't like that it's four mana, but I love that it's instant. Maybe it's not so crazy after all.

    The Film Thread

Pulp Fiction is probably my favourite, mostly for the reason that it's the movie I've gone back and rewatched the most.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, everything in RW seems bad. I'll give Brion Stoutarm a shot when I get around to buying one, though. I have no idea what situations the card is good in, but since a few of you like it, I'll try him and find out! Anyone try this yet, say in the utility land draft? I have no idea from...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I'll concede that Edge of Autumn is really bad midgame, i.e. when you have five or six lands but still want more. It makes up for that by being a sweet topdeck lategame, though, and is every bit as good as Rampant Growth in your opener or in your first couple of draw steps. It's almost like an...

General Flat Power level vs. Less Flat Power Level

Even for people 'in the know' about Magic and cube design, it's hard to walk into a new cube and know what's what. The advantage of sticking to the time-tested singleton power-max doctrine is that your knowledge of the cube format can carry over from one list to the next, whether that's in a...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

It's essentially a Rampant Growth that does the same job while in your opener, but isn't horrible to topdeck on turn ten, unlike every other ramp spell. Utility both early and late. I would rank the cubeable two-drop green ramp spells as Farseek Wall of Roots Sakura-Tribe Elder Edge of...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I will say that I've run Ember Swallower before, and can't really picture doubling up on him, even in lower power environments. Besides being a somewhat clunky four drop that needs a few turns after that to actually be effective, he's also essentially a Gruul-only card, making him narrower than...

    General Cockatrice Weekend Draft #4

I think with paper grab bag drafts, the organizer brings all different packs, or alternately every player contributes any three packs of their choice. So if it's an 8-man, you could have as many as 24 different sets represented. That's probably impossible online with draft sites like...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Yeah, there's definitely the danger of ramp spells homogenizing an entire format, causing midrange to dominate all of the carefully crafted synergies that you've baked into the format as a cube designer. For all of the supposed archetypes built into Modern Masters, it was telling that the best...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Good call on the Phoenixes, I'd forgotten all about those! Hanweir Watchkeep is also interesting, though it might be a little sketchy in any deck other than this exact archetype. I think that while there's a risk of non-creature ramp being non-interactive - and it's certainly closer to a combo...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Hmmm, maybe there's something to this signet-less RG Wildfire deck that we've overlooked. I would worry that it would require running a bunch of narrow, poison principle-y cards to be effective, but I suppose a couple of Wildfire effects isn't any more than what it takes to support some other...

General Cube supplies (sleeves, storage etc.)

ITS HERE Sadly it's a little smaller than I was expecting, and I don't think it'll actually fit my double-sleeved 360 cube, basics, utility lands, and tokens, so I'll still need to lug around a small white cardboard box. But for $75 shipped, I don't think I'm going to find a better deal...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I ran that for a while back when it was released... it was okay, but not great. She wants a lot of creatures, but decks with lots of creatures don't always want six drops, and... yeah. Also, {R}{R}{W}{W} made her really tough to cast.

I wish I knew what it did. :( I mean, I understand what the card does... I just don't know what it's good with/in/against.

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

Yeah, I never saw him cast that, and I think he would've been much better off with the Harness by Force in his sideboard (!). Purphoros was sweet in this deck, but just as often I've seen it be mediocre, where it sits there and does four damage all game while never threatening to "wake up"...

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

This was actually Paul's deck this week, and he wiped the floor clean with us. It was also the first time I've seen Purphoros hit devotion, which was responsible for much of the said wiping.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Looking for suggestions on top end RW cards, to replace Assemble the Legion, which is a little strong in an enchantment-removal-light environment. Anyone try these? Aurelia's Fury Balefire Liege Brion Stoutarm Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
