    The Video Game Thread

Moving these posts into its own thread, cause video games are awesome, and I want to hear more about what everyone's playing.

i don't think it's that bad, as it's an efficient body for the cost, but it pales when compared side by side with Wilt-Leaf Liege or especially Gavony Township

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

At this point, it's just Mutavault - which is strong enough to warrant a pick - and the Worldwake manlands. Everything else is in the utility draft. I think you could make a case for promoting a few to the main list, like Volrath's Stronghold or Shelldock Isle, as those are as strong as any spell.

Yeah, I played a UW control deck this week, and having only two sweepers in my deck wasn't close to enough. The way the packs broke in our six man, only two of the four in the cube were in the card pool, and I would've loved at least one more. On the bright side, I found good uses for...

Sacrilege! I love white Wrath effects, both playing them as a control player, but even more playing against them as an aggro player. It feels like one of the fundamental tug of war struggles in the game.

Horde of Notions was pretty filthy too. Evoke this Mulldrifter, tap Bloom Tender to recast it from the yard... Since we're all reminiscing, this was my favourite deck before I discovered elementals, the one that got me back into Magic after a decade away. "What do you mean, green creatures are...

Geeeeeez that brings back a wave of nostalgia. I tried so hard to make Violent Ultimatum work, and while it was ultimately futile, it was fun as all heck. This was my favourite deck to play. I was too cheap to afford Reflecting Pools, otherwise I would've ran those in place of the Exotic...

Yeah, Lorwyn Standard was an amazing format. Holy crap. I played Standard for several years afterwards, but none could recapture the magic of that era. Other than Kithkin, I mostly played decks off the beaten path, so I only ever encountered Faeries and 5cc, but never from the pilot's seat...

Yeah, Martial Coup came to mind for me as well, as it's in a similar class of spell. It was pretty busted, though, even in the earlier high-power iterations of my cube, so it got the axe pretty quickly. Don't forget that on the other end of the spectrum, Rebirth can make creatures a good deal...

Not to belabour this point much further, but I think the two cards are closer on the power level spectrum than we're putting them. It's true that Magister of Worth is better suited for all sorts of shenanigans, but I also suspect that in the majority of actual gameplay situations, a no frills...

General Cube supplies (sleeves, storage etc.)

i've used said cardboard shoeboxes for about four years now, and i feel it's finally time to treat myself to an upgrade! the box hasn't arrived yet :( maybe shipping to Canada takes longer? who knows. i've had ebay packages that took more than three weeks to get here, so it's not unusual

Wow, I thought I'd read all of the CFB articles over the years, but I don't remember this one. Thanks for the find! I think it's an interesting starting point for research and conversation, but I remain skeptical. There are a lot of things the article doesn't cover, such as being able to...

Is that actually true? I've never even remotely considered the possibility of doing that, but maybe some hard math could change my mind. ...maybe.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, I find my decks that want to draw a lot of cards also don't mind drawing more lands, even in the late game. These decks want to operate with lots and lots of mana. Kind of the same reason why Countryside Crusher never caught on. Even aggro decks want a couple lands once in a while!

my theory is that no one on the planet has tried Phyrexian Rebirth or even knows of its existence. it kind of flew under the radar the entire time it was legal in standard, because there were far more busted cards available. also, Day of Judgment was legal! i fully expect it to be the best...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

The problem with Balefire Dragon - and most cards of this ilk - is that it requires you to connect with it before it does anything. Whereas most decks that are trying to power out a seven drop need it to immediately stabilize the board on the same turn, as they've spent considerable resources...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

i'm currently trying out Sphinx of Uthuun myself, the jury is still out Sheoldred, Whispering One was actually kind of on the low end, as far as sevens go. Avenger of Zendikar was usually much stronger, and while not exactly oppressive, it won almost every game in which it hit the field, so i...

    General Fight Club

my vote is for Angel of Despair, it's not unreasonable to cast her (or really any seven drop) while eight drops are a stretch in cube Magister of Worth is a different card entirely, and i still prefer Phyrexian Rebirth for being easier to cast
