    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Same here. For reasons I can't quite put my finger on, Unexpectedly Absent has been aggressively mediocre around these parts. For a card that's a smidge harder to cast than Azorius Charm, but makes up for that by fitting into more decks and being pretty flexible, you'd think this would be a...

well, to compare apples to apples, the quirky offbeat rares they continue to print today still do stone nothing in limited. good luck with that Battle of Wits you opened in your M13 sealed pool! i was more talking about cards that are designed for limited play - the commons and uncommons. on...

those 3/5's for five do get played in most limited sets though. usually it's when something has gone wrong in your draft, but they're a pretty far cry from, say, Primal Visitation. like, that's a 0 out of 10 on power, whereas Siege Mastodon and friends are maybe a 3 i'm not sure if this is...

    General Card design theory

When you wrote "cheat", "Modern", and "wary" all in the same sentence, at first I thought you meant Modern lacked cards like this: Sneak Attack Show and Tell Reanimate For the discard scenario, it's similar to why conditional tutors always force the player to reveal the card they've searched...

The Dandy Cube (Chris Taylor's Cube)

... you know that as a CubeTutor beta tester that Ben is requesting you not divulge all of this information - on a public forum! - at this time but since it's now out there. the dividing line between free features and premium features on any subscription site doesn't usually come down to...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

i concur with this. i tried Trinket Mage, together with a bunch of baubles like Executioner's Capsule and Elixir of Immortality Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas the artifact land package in the utility land draft all of that together for a long time, but it still wasn't worth it. it was always more...

General Decks that have 3-0'd your cube

wow that deck is just about the midrangiest thing in the world, can't take a step without being midranged on the side of the head yeah Curse of Predation has quietly become most impactful cube card out of the whole C13 set

    VibeBox Presents: Combo Cube!

holy crap, this looks awesome. i don't watch enough vintage or legacy to recognize all of the shenanigans going down, but this seems like a really sweet way to do a powered list. love all that fast mana, across a buncha colours. i know of your distaste for planeswalkers so i won't ask where...

You can do what I do: run only bad artifacts! Then you can cut all of the Torch Fiends and Manic Vandals of the world. It got to the point where people were complaining that Stoneforge Mystic was essentially worthless, with really only the two Bonesplitters as valuable targets. So I cut her, too.

I love bodies that double as incidental hate cards, like Qasali Pridemage, Wickerbough Elder, and Acidic Slime. What's missing is some sorta Reclamation Sage in mono-white. There's Leonin Relic-Warder and Kor Sanctifiers, but I kinda hate both of them.

Holy crap, that's awesome. Reminds me of the traps in Home Alone, and the bungling burglars who fell face first for all of them.

so if that card is bad, and can at least be played by every deck... why are we considering Outpost Siege again? also, this custom card reduces complexity!

Pacifism effects work perfectly well on this class of creatures, too, as well as any annoying Gravecrawler shenanigans. Temporal Isolation Prison Term Faith's Fetters Curse of Chains edit: ugh what has Gatherer done why are some of the images bigger than others suddenly

Yeah, amen to that. After almost twelve years, it's time for a frame update; the Modern ones have never been all that appealing, just functional and legible. I'm surprised they didn't go all out in giving it a new coat of paint while they went about tweaking the bottom of the frame.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the free-wheeling style of the original batch of Magic artists. They also tended to use a more abstract, painterly, high fantasy feel, rather than the hyperrealistic 3D rendering technique artists tend to use today. I can understand the creative team wanting more cohesion...

Cloudgoat Ranger is the only one with enough juice to make most people's cubes here, I imagine. I ran Scion of Vitu-Ghazi for a few months, but it was far enough below the power curve that no one ever considered picking it. Geist-Honored Monk might be a happy medium between the two, though I've...
