    Jason Waddell's Cube

Wow. I didn't actually realize there was such a pro-shock, anti-dual contingent among the Riptide population. I always just figured I was alone in my convictions, so I never really posted about this topic. Viva la Résistance!

The shockland mechanic really tickles my fancy, moreso than either duals with no downside attached, or ones with a downside that don't have a choice involved. I mean, why would you play your Watery Grave untapped on the second turn, and then pass? Do you have it?

And then add painlands to your utility land draft. And then you have my cube some interesting tension!

Thundermaw Hellkite is such a dragon though! Such a dragon.

    I hate everything you like

Holy crap, were we separated at birth? That's the exact same thing I've been telling my co-worker for the last few months. I much prefer a short, tightly-crafted experience to a long, dull, padded-out one with tons of pointless busywork. I'm probably the only person in the world who preferred...

    I hate everything you like

I knew I wasn't into the game when I printed out a walkthrough so that I could figure out how to power through the main quest without being distracted by any of the side missions. Final clear time: a svelte forty hours! I was actually completely unaware of most of the advanced level tactics...

Anybody play FF12? I seem to recall that had some kind of FF10-like grid leveling system, but I played it so long ago, it's all kinda hazy now. Can't remember if it topped FF10's sphere grid or not. Though since I disliked almost everything else about 12, I suppose it's moot.

General Life Gain as a Thing

Btw, Enigma Sphinx is awful. I actually tried to run it in Standard a long time ago, and was continually disappointed, despite 'optimizing' my deck for cascade. For the sake of your own health, please don't run it. On the other hand... this card is pretty sweet! Maelstrom Wanderer

    Card/Deck Bloodghast

Dredgevine with Bloodghast & Vengevine? I suppose this might overlap with the Gravecrawler deck, but I always wanted a self-mill Golgari aggro archetype in my cube. Just don't know what I could really include to make it happen without making the archetype too isolated and poison principle-y.

Aren't most of your Pod decks, by definition, midrange, though? It's the main reason I've been slow to jump on board the Birthing Pod train - I'm reluctant to give midrange an unnecessary boost, especially when green is already predominantly midrange here.

General Life Gain as a Thing

The reanimation aspect of Whip is a nice rider that gives the card a ton of staying power in the grindy attrition-based games, but don't be fooled - the lifelink is actually the key aspect of that card. Like FSR alludes to, it's not uncommon to see the Whip player gaining upwards of twenty life...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

This was supposed to be Emmara Tandris's card, but they had to do a last minute swap for power-level concerns (Emmara was slotted to be printed at rare along with the other guild champions, with Voice of Resurgence's rules text). I'm considering breaking my no custom cards rule for an art and...

    CML's Cube (405, polychromatic)

Yeah, protection on a big finisher is a lot more tolerable than protection on a two or three drop. Especially when the big lug's already got evasion. Presumably you're not holding him back to block Knight of Meadowgrain or anything, and dodging one colour's worth of removal is still less...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

That was a card that always looked good on paper, but was pretty worthless in practice, playing out mostly as a multicolor Centaur Courser. I always found that reactive cards never work well in the white weenie type of deck. Persist / undying guys end up playing out much better as wrath...

    Card/Deck Supporting latent tribal.

Imperious Perfect is more than fine over here in my lower-powered environment, without any other explicit Elf support. I just see her as a 2/2 token maker, and if she happens to pump your random mana dorks, then you've gone and Exploited Some Synergies. I guess she's a little embarrassing if...

it's probably between you and Calvin.. but Calvin isn't really 'here' so you win by default

I actually think it might even have been fair at just 0. I mean, anything to get the player to think for a bit. Especially given that her ultimate doesn't do much, and people routinely hit nine and ten loyalty with her while never giving the indestructible emblem a second thought.

Yeah, Elspeth is better / dumber in cube than Jace by a fair margin. It doesn't take a whole lot of skill to tick her up by one. I think she was the first card I ever banned on power level.
