    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Champion of the Parish over Savannah Lions is the right call, and almost a strict upgrade overall. If your cube is anything like most cubes on here, that change should work out fine. The only other marginal human support card is Gather the Townsfolk, as a weaker token generator that should make...

General Life Gain as a Thing

Cunning Sparkmage is a good man regardless of whether you slap a dog collar on him. Someone's gotta clean up the mess left by Noble Hierarch and Blood Artist.

    Sets BNG Spoilers

Without ways to continually tap and untap it outside of combat, it just seems way worse than Hypnotic Specter.. which very few of us even run anymore

General Cube as a teaching device

Yep, make five monocolour decks. Thirty cards apiece is more than enough. I would try to keep all of your creatures and spells as vanilla as possible, because there's going to be plenty of information overload just from learning the basic game structure and rules. Card complexity and strategic...

    Report Site Issues Here

Yep, changed that a month or two back already. Also, moving this stuff to a new thread - it just occurred to me there's no good place to report issues with the website right now!

    Sets BNG Spoilers

Not really the ETB artifact & enchantment bear we were looking for :( I'd already dug up my copy of Mulch a few days ago before ultimately deciding against it. I kinda like the look of this curious satyr, though. Should pair well with Grisly Salvage, and he can block to buy you some time...

The card I was long pining for, to run alongside Torch Fiend. Goodbye, Manic Vandal!

    General Squadron Build-Arounds

But on the plus side, I'm glad you've come around on the Squadron Hawk experiment. I remember you expressing some apprehension when I changed white around to reinclude the five-pack (!) of birds. I take it you're on-board this train now!

    I don't.. I don't run Cultivate nor Cultivate

General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

Yeah, in that format, Goblin Ruinblaster existed, too. But if you wanted to go after their basic Mountain, either to keep them off Primeval Titan, or to lower their count after the Titan had hit the board already, your only option was Acidic Slime. I'm in agreement that Stone Rain might've been...

General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

Yeah, during that whole back-and-forth, I was more talking about Stone Rain being an answer to Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, or failing that, basic Mountain. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have broken the environment in half.

    General 17 card packs

I'm now down to a 378 card cube, which can actually support nine people with the fourteen card packs! :)
  13. Eric Chan

    General 17 card packs

Yup, exactly! There's actually a lot of good reasons to go down to fourteen cards, not the least of which is that it more closely approximates the retail Limited format. Forcing players to make do with less is another, although in cube, that usually isn't a problem, because there are far fewer...

General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

That's fair. I apologize for my snippy response earlier. Responding to sarcasm with sarcasm isn't usually the best tack. I think this just comes down to player preference, and from the responses to this thread, it's actually becoming more clear to me that Wizards has done the right thing by...

    General 17 card packs

Absolutely. But instilling that skill on my playgroup would be a Herculean task, when nearly all of them are casual players at best. This is where I've chosen to "fix" this problem for my players, without them needing to realize that a problem exists, never mind that it's being solved for them...

General Can I Have Your Digits?

Fantastic initiative, CML! Colour me surprised - I always thought you had something resembling hostility towards fine-grained statistical tracking. I love this idea, and whether or not something useful comes out of it, at least I'll be able to confirm that I have way too many eight-drops...

    General 17 card packs

I.. actually did the opposite. To compensate for the utility draft giving everyone three extra lands, I've gone down to 14-card packs. This way, people still end up with the 45 cards they used to get before. I think just shoving more lands into packs and calling it a day may not accomplish...

General The size of one's cube

I think what you'll find is that at Riptide Lab, we have a very strong bias towards small cubes - mostly 500 and under - for many of the reasons outlined by Jason and FlowerSunRain above. It's mostly that you get to craft a tight, well-structured drafting environment for your players, and that...

General Jitte and assorted GRBS, P1P1, etc.

You know what? You're right. Having the most powerful planeswalker ever printed handy - one that would later need to be banned in Standard - is a great solution when ramp decks are dominating the format and causing it to stagnate. All in all, Jace, the Mind Sculptor is a fitting side-by-side...
