Most people already run Preordain/Ponder/Brainstorm, and all of those can be converted at no cost. I could probably run 5 and not really notice an impact. Does blue need depth to do other things if it can filter all day long?

In a brainstorm cube I would run Terminus but not Entreat the Angels. I don't think you need more than 20/360 fetches to make Brainstorm useful. It opens up mutli-Delver if you want that, but there's been some debate over whether that's desirable. I love the Sarkhan the Mad, Dark Confidant...

I personally think Clash is a dumb mechanic and it reminds me of some of the super clunky stuff from the original Star Wars CCG. That game also had a card with a "CMC" of pi, but I can't for the life of me remember the name.

The closest I have done is a 5-player "forced shards" draft. Each player gets assigned a shard, and you can draft whatever you want, but you can only (during gameplay) produce mana of your given shard. So if you want to play Naya and draft Lingering Souls but not flash it back power to you. The...

Yeah, for reference, the dude who does this basically just 1v1 drafts with a friend all the time, and they're both pretty well versed in the cube's contents. I wouldn't advise this if you play with a lot of less dedicated players.

At one point in time I ran that Metalcraft cancel and I still feel a little uncomfortable about it.
