I’d be curious to hear what other people think of bitterblossom. I was thinking about ravinc’s comment and I’m aware that classically it is considered to be a very powerful card. In my environment it has never seemed to be TOO oppressive and the loss of life every then can end up being relevant...
Seems janky. I feel like I would be wanting to get more out of my five drop but maybe it depends on the environment?
Compare it to
Increasing Devotion
Which costs the same but gives you five bodies immediately
Yeah my bad. I literally just read that rule last week and must have misread or or something because I was sure they didn’t cancel each other out. But I went back and checked and I’m clearly wrong. I stand corrected
Maybe I'm wrong or missing something, but this would not actually work would it? +1/+1 counters do not cancel out -1/-1 counters. By my count on turn four you could only do 8 damage right?
I do my drafts with almost exclusively four players and I have tried a few different ideas to address the concerns.
The most simple:
-4 packs of 14
-Draft and pass like normal
-When there are 3 cards left in the pack, discard the whole remaining pack in the middle
Notes: The idea of this...
Thanks for the input, Grillo. I think this is probably a good assessment of my cube after thinking about it. It was not necessarily something I was specifically going for but I guess it kind of wound up that way. Not sure how.
Random question-
How come when I click on the link in my signature it says the cube has been deleted on cube tutor. But then if I c/p into my URL bar it takes me to the cube?
I drafted my cube for the first time after the updates I made with the new Rivals of Ixalan additions.
I drafted a fairly solid Boros deck, and Skymarcher Aspirant was solid. It drew removal several times and it felt like a fun/dynamic mechanic trying to sequence correctly and achieve...
To add onto that, my intent with cube has always been to try to create as many of those emotional responses you talk about. But obviously it is a balance as someone else in the thread said: a game starts to become bad the more the "fun" way to play diverges from the "best" way to play.
This is what I said about my friends and I's approach to cubing which I believe echoes the general idea behind what you have been saying, Grillo, even if my specific implementation isn't achieving it. I can definitely relate to what you have been saying.
The time I realized EDH was degenerate was when my friend got seriously angry at me for counter his turn 1 sol ring with foil before I had even played a land. Acting as if I was the one using an unfair card.
I've read the last few posts you have made about "novelty" and "memories" and stuff and I wonder if perhaps you better understand my position on the discussion we had once on cube size? Because it seems my position in that discussion was trying to get across to you exactly what you are trying...
I like this idea. It was sort of what I originally tried when I first started cubing. What I found was there just was not enough design space at higher power levels to make more than a few archetypes that could compete against the "good stuff" decks.
I run a similar format where all my board wipes are 5 cost or more (except Supreme Verdict, which is 4 cost as a reward for going into that guild...no idea if that is a good idea) in an effort to boost aggro. Maybe Dusk//Dawn would go well in my cube.
