    Site News RipLab Community Drafts

Hey guys, just putting out a feeler. Eric and I discussed organizing 1 - 2 drafts a month that would be done by our community online. Just putting out a feeler for potential timeslots. Let me know what you think about the following: 1) Sunday afternoon (e.g. 2-6 PM EST) 2) Weekday evening...

General Print this Wizards! (So I can put it in my cube)

Uh, lifegain is primarily in the BWG wedge, so I don't know that WBR is where you want to have it.

[Design/Construction] Lets build the Scuttlemutt Cube!

I wouldn't worry about it until you have evidence of it actually being a problem. Save this for the development phase.

    Eldrazi Domain Cube

It seems only possibly good in a serious five-color deck, and even there it's not really pulling much weight or pulling the player into the archetype. It's like a narrow, conditional version of Allied Strategies.

    General Multi-Colour\Gold Cubes

I think some distinction on your goals needs to be made. Do you want high gold density or high multicolor-deck density? Because gold cards are inherently very narrow, and the classic way of making them less narrow is to make the players play more (read: 3+) colors. So I think the stated goal of...

    General Cross Mechanic Transparency

Interesting topic. Reminiscent of Cooperfauss' Rebel errata. I imagine the biggest barrier here is the emotional response to changing away from "official" cards. It opens up a lot of design space, and my arguments against it would have little to do with design principles and a lot to do with...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Yeah, you also have Condemn and Sword to Plowshares. And Nature's Claim. As Dom mentioned, I know. There's no way I'm running Fiery Justice though.

General How to make red aggro more fun

I'm all for red control, but I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I have plenty of red aggro while still including (almost) all of the above.

General How to make red aggro more fun

I think you handle it by where you put the strength in your set. If players start off by taking what "looks good" they should be able to weasel their way into a deck. I remember I drafted Modern Masters without really looking at the spoiler beforehand, and just took a bunch of good stuff like...

General How to make red aggro more fun

No, I actually find the aggro decks to be very challenging to build and play correctly and for whatever reason the decks fare well in my hands but others often do poorly when they go for red-based aggro. Utility Land Draft goes a long way to increasing the complexity of playing an aggro deck.

General How to make red aggro more fun

I've been hating on Wildfire since before ripsters even existed. The worst thing about the Portal sets is that it has put the abominable "Wildfire" archetypes into cubers' minds. I don't know where people got the idea that "win if I cast this spell with a Planeswalker on the board" strategies...

General How to make red aggro more fun

Uh, the problem is that once every few drafts we get a pack with just like, 5 red cards as the last cards in the pack. I think my group has a really strong bias against the color that has nothing to do with power level. I just want red to be desired as much as the other colors, and right now the...

    Card/Deck +1/+1 Counters

Volt Charge Tezzeret's Gambit Both of these cards are super playable, especially if you have on-theme support. I don't know that I would go much deeper. Mayyyybe Contagion Clasp. I know I do go deeper in the Eldrazi cube but some of those cards are kind of turds.

General How to make red aggro more fun

Yeah, the problem I have right now is that people love playing red as the zombie "support" color, but they are never really going into red as their primary color. I don't think the weird cube adage "beat them with it until they realize how good it is" even applies here as I've beaten them with...

    Card/Deck Bloodghast

Somehow I knew you'd take that as an opportunity to make a pegging joke.

    GBS

I don't know if you guys have seen it, but Dan Harmon's new show Rick and Morty is fantastic. Like super fantastic. And really fresh.

    General CBS

Uh, Eric and I chatted about this in a Google hangout. I think it would be cool to have these under our control, schedule a premier draft of one of our cubes a couple times a month, have people sign up, etc.

    General CBS

Hey Eric, since drafts.in is forkable on github, could we host a version on RipLab? Also what is the legality of hosting cockatrice servers?

    General CBS

So is drafts.in actually, you know, functional? I would make draft videos if I had a decent way of video-recording my cube.

General How to make red aggro more fun

I want Goblins, in a theoretical world, to be relentless and blitzing. Two ideas: 1) playable Goblin Sledder types, boosted to a cube-appropriate power level. Goblin Sledder Tuktuk the Explorer Mogg War Marshal 2) playable tutor / card advantage? Maybe a Goblin that tutors up a dude on...
