Article Top 8 Most Oppressive Cube Cards

Armageddon sometimes produces super fun games and sometimes is like "oh, I guess we're done playing Magic already".

I don't know if it would help, but my eye wants a bit of white space between spells, nonbasics and basics.

Ah, it was just a case of me being on slow internet earlier. Carry on.

Fits the theme perfectly, but I don't know if it's powerful enough.

Upheaval was pretty non-OP in my cube and I'll probably put it back in soon. I run very little big mana stuff too. It was always a memorable spell, and sometimes you would just throw things back to everyone's hand as a reset button, without the assurance of a win lined up.

Yeah, multiplayer is a whole different beast. I can imagine it's way easier to abuse Upheaval there. I think a lot of these cards were a draw at first, but eventually the honeymoon phase ended and I started to see things in a different light.

Yeah, Hannes is bringing his Shocks tomorrow so I'll test out doubling down. If it's a good idea I'll buy an extra cycle at the end of the month. EDIT: Fully sleeved and 8 drafters lined up for tomorrow.

If we could create and host cube drafts with custom lists on MODO it would be the greatest thing ever. They can even charge Cube tickets for the event and give the host none of the profits. Build it and we will come. As is I spend $0 / month on MODO.

    General Brainstorming: Microdrafting

I've put more thought into this format and still thing it would be extremely fun, but think I need a web application to actually do the playing and deckbuilding through. Any takers?

I once played a cube game where my opponent mulled to 6, played T1 Maze of Ith and cast his first spell on Turn 5 (Wrath of God) and won without any real effort. Hooray for having to overcommit to push damage through Maze then get punished into oblivion by one spell.

    General Blue Aggro?

I agree that it's a continuum. Given your definitions, my question is perhaps whether we should strive to be supporting blue tempo decks or blue aggro decks. To my limited knowledge there are very few decks that I would consider to be the analogue of aggro decks in blue. Even Legacy Merfolk...

    General Blue Aggro?

You know, I tried out all the ideas in this list at one point, and like CML, things just did not work very well. Many of the cards were super weak, and not at all wanted by the "aggro" decks, much less the control ones. Perhaps I'm not appreciating exactly what the distinction to be had here...

Quibble away. Top X lists leave lots of room for quibbling.

Great post, Miasmir. Eric, we need mouseovers on those cards because apparently I don't know what a lot of cards do by the top third.

Melee has aged so gracefully. It was an MLG game back in 2006, and the other games of that era look and play like ass now. Halo 2 is an eyesore. But Melee is a thing of beauty. A 700-person tournament for a 12-year-old video game is incredible. Somehow their scene has just gotten stronger with...

I run Jace and everybody loves him. He's a fun and skill testing card, and very beatable. Players would enjoy my cube less with Jace removed.
