Card/Deck Bounce

Do we not have a bounce spell thread?

Soon I'm going to go up to three of these guys:

I'm making an effort to make UR spells-tempo good. The theory is, play one of these, back him up with cheap bounce, play Young Pyromancer and Spellheart Chimera and Guttersnipe, cast stuff, win. So I'd like get some good, efficient bounce spells in here. Definitely looking to run one or more of this one:

Someone on here pointed out that the more ETB effects you have on your creatures, the worse bounce is. This is a great point! That's gunna need some thinking about too. Can you guys think of other good tempo plays that'll get the nobles through? Maybe Feeling of Dread? Seems weak.

Technically, "tap creature, opponent can't untap it next turn" removes a blocker for longer. You still want bounce so that your opponent's mana gets logjammed, but if they've got a Dragon's Eye Sentry or other low-cmc, then Singing Bell Strike or Crippling Chill can pin it down while you reserve bounce for their costlier creatures and put +1 counters on your bad touchers.

(this spot reserved for Anotak-style card dump of intimidator initiates, kor hookmasters, and other sundry EtB/OnAttack NoBlock and EtB/OnAttack TapDat creatures, including various itty bitty gublins)

Personal Favorites:

the problem is that very few decks want straight unsummon, since it's hard to take advantage of the tempo in the more random midrange decks.

If you want noble to be good, I'd say you don't need to work too hard mind :p
Volt Charge is a sweet one, but IIRC you've got Ion Storm, so you might already have some in there?
Stromkirk Noble > Gore-House Chainwalker > Volt Charge is a sweet opener

That is a good point. If we're pushing vertical aggro, maybe we should look into what disruption we want to run both for and against the vertical guys. Tappers probably does the trick as good as bouncers, to get another hit in, but doesn't hose the decks we'd want to push.

The ones on a stick are good but James wants them for his spells matters deck, so don't have quite the same value. (I know it's also just a generic bounce thread though).

There are a couple of approaches I would go with maybe - the flashback and rebound spells to get twice the trigger:

As well as things like firebolt and staggershock.

Then there's jilt and fire/ice to push people into the red blue archetype.

You also have threatens, protection effects, and evasion granters.

I don't think its bad that champion or noble can be largely undone by opposing bounce spells. A control or midrange player would otherwise be using an actual removal spell in that spot, which is much worse for the aggro player. The interaction also increases the overall value of bounce in the cube as a real answer, which might be nice for decks fighting over cheap spot removal in the draft.

Like Chris said though, you really don't need to work too hard to make stromkirk good.

This is certainly true, but these decks still want about ten or twelve creatures, and it's really backbreaking for the opponent when many of those creatures also confer a tempo advantage. I guess I'm trying to say that these things aren't mutually exclusive - you can run both Aether Adept and Silent Departure! The bounce spells on a stick tend to be less narrow, and can fit into any U/x tempo deck, and even sometimes into midrange or control decks, too.

If anything, a spell heavy deck is still going to have to run some bodies, so having them also be the kind of effects that the spell decks are looking for (ie burn and bounce) you up the consistency of the deck.
