General Great Cards to go deep on

Feel obligated to point out that it seems your cube doesn't run Zendikar Resurgent, Tzenmoroth :p. And RGx ramp sounds like exactly the deck for ZR. And enchantments stick around after obliterate. Just sayin'.

I might consider it if I didn't hate Armageddon-type effects. At least Wildfire and Co. allow there to be a chance both sides have lands. Especially when you specifically try to set it up as a control piece, not a ramp piece.

Also I think Obliterate has already earned its keep in this thread, if the immediate tendency to tangent on it has anything to say :)

Tapping that much mana for a card that doesn't impact the board until next turn feels like a form of suicide. I want my 7 mana sorcery spell to act as a win condition or sweeper on its own. I have thought about Dictate of Karametra though because you should be able to win on 10+ mana. Haven't tested it yet.

Oh believe you me I'd think so too, but I have some reliable sources that are telling me it's more than meets the eye. Also your cube is miles higher in power than some, so I could see the reason for hesitation.

And that's not even the version I like.

is Jokulhaups fun? seems like it immediately ends the game in your favour if you have a superior board presence

You mean if you have a planeswalker or game winning enchantment out? Because the rest gets DESTROYED!
Or if you have extra mana. Or if you have any sort of "traveler", including curving from Vorapede into this. Or if you just have a nice hand for post-haups. Card is busted.

Fair enough. It's kinda the red Upheaval in that regard, but easier to break because of our fondness for recursive threats, right? :) (And because planeswalkers...)

I mean, I wouldn't run it (well... I've been tempted a couple times...) but my point was that if you're looking that kind of effect, I prefer the one that people can actually cast. 'Course, there's always

It's not really build around because it works with any spell (sorcery speed), but it definitely is a unique flavor: Big Spells. Seems like something that I could jump off the diving board for, raise my curve some to get the bombier effects.

Part of the issue with 'big spells' (at least in my cube) is that a lot of the bombiest spells have 'x' costs. (rakdos' return, devil's play, etc.) I feel like you'd need to convert those to just big fatties like call the skybreaker.

That is a bit of a conundrum. I think cubes can have enough 'big spells', though it might take a little work. Stuff like

The last one sadly doesn't work the way one would hope, but it does inspire deck building with 'how can I get this to be cast for surge?'. Makes me want to run

Frantic Search is one of my favorite cards. If you have any sort of spellslinger archetype in your cube, I would highly recommend it. It just does so much more than it initally appears to. It's good in multiple archetypes (reanimator, spells matter, and in the decks with cards like mirari's wake or utility lands such as Cradle, super-ramp. I have used it to tap a cradle twice in one turn. It was a fun time.)

I think without a bomb spell to 'combo off' with, such as cruel ultimatum or somesuch, it'll be hard to justify going all-in on Mizzix's Mastery which is in of itself a problem, as the card seems like it works best in a buildaround deck, not an incidental advantage deck.
