General "Looking for a card"-Thread

Edit: oops Mondschwein beat me to it.

Does this fit the bill? I find it unique and it's fun to try and maximize it via mill, scry, draw, tutors or what have you. It pushes you into a controlling deck which is pretty much the opposite of weenies.

These guys are slow and need some colorless support cards, but it's a fun engine to set up and ties artifacts to white. Restoration Specialist and Open the Vaults could maybe create a small package for GY artifacts in white. Although I just saw you are playing Daring Archaeologist, so that's probably redundant.

Cards I like in white:

Are you sure it's not just you not liking white's strategies in general? There are people who love burn, there are people who think it's the most utterly boring strategy on earth. It's very hard to build a cube where you like every archetype in your cube, and it might even be the wrong goal honestly. If you like everything your cube is doing, doesn't that just mean you built a cube confined to your own limited tastes? (Unless you've got incredibly broad tastes of course ;) ) The trick is designing a cube that appeals to different player's tastes, and that might mean you've got a "boring" color. Well... Boring to you, that is, probably not to other players :)

I'm having trouble filling out my green creature section, in particular the 2-4 drop range. I'm looking for a few creatures that fit any of these themes:

-Lifegain
-Synergy with Hashep Oasis
-TOL manipulation/payoff
-Tokens-matter
-Counters, especially of the -1/-1 variety
--Either cares about lands in the GY, or provides a way to get them from hand onto the board or into the GY
-Sacrifice

Power level is slightly lower than Penny Pincher 2.0, roughly similar to the Alchemist's Crucible by Alfonzo.

There is a nice 2-drop that cares about -1/-1 counters and life gain and is still just a good card generally:

Okay, so now to alt he replies to my ask: A huge thanks for all the recommendations, it'll help me to find more interesting things for white.

And yeah, you are not completely wrong with this assumption. I don't hat white, but I definitely like other colors more. Part of the problem is also, that white has so many cards, that fit into 2 or more themes, that it all feels a bit like a single mass. My white archetypes are {W/U} Blink, {W/B} Lifegain, {R/W} Go wide aggro and {G/W} Tokens - and every white card seemed to either fit into 2+ of these archetypes or contradict too much with the color. Maybe I should just bring back wraths and make {W} a support color for the {U/B} and {U/R} control decks?

I really like using these mana symbols in text :D

Totally forgot about Drana. I guess it's finally time to say bye to Vampire Nighthawk. I never thought about Unbreakable Formation, but it might be great for supporting go-wide too...

Okay, guys, you helped me a lot to narrow down my white problem. But I need you one more time! I want to dedicate 7 slots of my white section to control cards. 2 of those slots will go to Rout and a similar sweeper, leaving me with 5 more slots to fill.

So I'd love to know 5 white cards that would make you splash or go into that color if your draft pool so far would look something like this:

Give me 5 white cards you'd pick happily in pack 2 now, roughly fitting my cubes power level.

Jeez... Grixis splash white? What kind of mad drafting is this? :p Anyway, all of these would be good pickups for the kind of deck we've assembled so far, I think, though some (Myth and Arrogance) require a bit more fixing.

Monastery Mentor is great with all of the spells we've assembled so far. Just a great reason to continue the white splash in this deck.

Sentinel of the Eternal Watch is a late drop that's easy to splash, and does great work in slower spell-based control decks like this. It basically shuts down two opposing creatures, can often attack, and combines excellently with Icy Manipulator and Ryusei.

Myth Realized works for the same reasons Monastery Mentor works, but ideally want to be able to drop it on turn one or activate it's first activated ability multiple times, which looks a bit tricky with the mana we've assembled so far.

Tragic Arrogance is a great fit so far. We've got a few artifacts, and we've got very few creatures, meaning this will almost be guaranteed to hit your opponent much harder than it will hit you, and you get to choose permanents of multiple types to keep around. Should feel great to cast in this deck, so far.

Eternal Dragon is a great slow finisher in a cube with a lower power level. It fetches Plains to fuel your white splash, and once you get your second white source and enough mana, it keeps coming back... eventually. Great card to finish the game with after you've outvalued your opponent with all of your removal and card draw.

I'd look for mass removal because that's the best tool that white offers to control, blockers to contain aggro and force it to overextend, instant spot removal to feel safe hold unused counterspell mana up, an enchantment that provides value over time, and a finisher.

For example:

If you want cards that scream "control!" less than the ones above and can be used in other decks:

Man, those are some pretty cool white cards, and they aren't high power. :) That Myojin makes me look through the whole Kamigawa block again, as this one is just beautiful design. Devouring Light and Dawn of Hope get me excited, too. If Second Thoughts (funny card!) would cost 1 less I would definitely add it.

I am looking for a card that will make Ondezeeboot run a few utility lands in his cube again :p

It could be a super awesome uncommon non-game winning utility land or anything else your brain can come up with.

These get cute with certain other cards like Witness or can just generate a narrow value.

Classic for interesting interactions.

I feel like there's probably some way to abuse this, although I've not yet looked into it. Some sort of low power, high mana cards.

That's all I have for weirdish things in my list.

EDIT: Didn't see the last page because of how it loaded.

I'd absolutely add wraths to white. You should try to have the color play all angles. Aggro, mid, control. This almost inevitably assures you'll like the decks more, as there will be a greater variety of them.

I'm also wondering if lifegain is too narrow of a theme. It feels practically tribal, a lot of the cards. I've been considering it lately, but so many of the cards are so narrow.

All the outlast lords I assume you already have:

Some other +1/+1 counter good cards:

Other counters to proliferate:

Found these cards, which could be fun with Generous Patron:

I think I like Sensei Golden-Tail the most out of this list, just does something different, even if it is a strictly worse +1/+1 counter. Otherwise, maybe just go with Hedron-Field Purists. It could be good if you didn't need to pay 3 mana per level up. Or Gore Vassal, because it is weird, even if it is low-power.
