General M14 RULES CHANGES ARE KILLING MAGIC, I'M GONNA QUIT

THERE WON'T BE ANYONE TO PLAY MAGIC WITH ANYMORE THEY'RE DUMBING DOWN THE GAME

In case you missed it, the gospel from the mothership:

I don't think these changes have a huge effect on cube, though I'm happy that clones are nerfed by this change. Before, oftentimes the best use of Phantasmal Image was to nuke an annoying Thrun or Olivia Voldaren on the other side of the table. It didn't make a whole lot of flavour sense to begin with, and now clones will return to their "intended" functionality of copying stuff for value. I always kind of hated that blue had the de facto best answers for legends, and that it conveniently circumvented all of Thrun's obvious anti-blue defenses.

What do you think of these changes?

I really liked Little Jace killing Big Jace, and silly tricks involving blinking an Oblivion Ring to legend rule two things at once.

On the whole not too concerned. These types of interactions are pretty rare in cube as is.

This change makes Modern significantly worse: Liliana and Geist were two of the most obnoxious cards in the format as it is, and they just got a lot better.

Eh, Geist could use a little extra help, fair Blue is teetering on the edge of unplayable. (For the record, I hate Geist)

Lili seems to go from insane to marginally more insane?

Conley said Mox Opal is the big benefactor in Modern. This seems likely to me.

The changes seem worse for Legacy -- it's not like Griselbrand and Emrakul and Show and Tell needed the extra help.

Clones are sweet in Cube, but I don't mind their getting nerfed a little here -- Image and Metamorph are two of the best cards in mine.

A dark day for sakashima the impostor
My lavinia of the tenth EDH will be rocking the house now though. I'll be attaching followed footsteps to her any time soon.

apart from that, doesn't this make "being legendary" hold no value at all in cube (unless you were to include support cards or a multiple of a legendary, and even then it would only surface when a single player would draft, say, two thalia's ?)

The last time we ran into the Planeswalker rule (it's been a while) was when a newcomer played Jace Beleren with his own JTMS on the field. We let him undo it, of course.

One of my players scooped up three Jaces in a draft and joked that he was drafting "Jace tribal". Unsurprisingly, he'd get stuck with the bigger ones in hand while trying to kill off his own baby Jace.

Wait, how come they got better if the opponent will be playing his own Llliana and Geist as well? The player that landed his card first does have an advantage, but the oppponent gets to keep his own planeswalker/legendary to try and race.

I am neither happy nor sad with these changes. The only thing that comes close to bothering me is Phantasmal Image not killing Avacyn in EDH, but the again, that is why Duplicant is for.

They're not better against themselves, they're better against decks without them. Being able to double Edict/double discard/whatever combination you like in the same turn with a pair of Lilianas, and taking away one of the few reliable ways of killing Geist (Phantasmal Image) makes each of them better.

As a budget Standard during the JTMS era, the Planeswalker uniqueness rule (via Jace Beleren) was my best friend. I would not have been able to win tournaments with this new rule.

1) It's okay to hit your drafters if they are that smug, and 2) I bet he won those games where Jace Beleren was "stuck" in play.

I really liked the last legend mechanic, I never had to play much standard with planeswalker wars but I'm sure it was annoying. Love my 2cc jitte killers.

I'd chock that up to being more Jitte's fault for being broken than the legend rule for giving people an answer :p
