General (SOS) Secrets of Strixhaven

Creatures get to cast spells now too:

They've also spoiled the charms I think, but I couldn't find decent images of all of them.

I don't usually get excited for MaRo's blog posts where he posts leprechaun riddles about what to expect in upcoming sets, but a few caught my eye that were pretty exciting.

A new Pox piece being the most exciting of the bunch, although I hope its not a stronger 4cmc-version of Pox as I most likely wouldn't run it.

The other hint was about a legendary cycle that all contain old keyword mechanics, which pretty much has to be the cycle of Elder Dragons based on the two that have been spoiler / leaked. Lorehold with Miracle and Witherbloom with Affinity. Witherbloom is pretty boring imo, but Lorehold was one of the more creative implementations of Miracle I have seen so I have my hopes up for some zesty Dragons still to come.

Im a vacuum this is probably worse than Cathar Commando. But as I support a lifegain theme that could need another enabler, I will happily add extra utility to this bread and butter effect slot.

Can't link an image, but I'm drawn to this card from the Commons leak:

Visionary's Dance - {5}{U}{R}
Sorcery (c)
Create two 3/3 blue and red Elemental creature tokens with flying.
{2}, discard this card: Look at the top two cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the other into your graveyard.

and this Common legendary that actually kinda makes thematic sense as a common for once?

Page, Loose Leaf - {2}
Legendary Artifact Creature - Construct (c)
{T}: Add {c}
Grandeur - Discard another card named Page, Loose Leaf: Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal an instant or sorcery card. Put that card into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.

I like this one! All the abilities feel very Black with disruption, GY setup and recursion and a little stax to top it off.
There are four abilities, but they are straightforward.
Not a fan of Ral’s smug face in the art though :/

Prismari and Quandrix dragons are bae. 100% going in no questions asked.

Hardened Academic is looking very nice.

As a Golgari PW I really like Dellian Fell, unsure if I need a card like him though.

This one is pretty cool, it's tough competition in my cube to displace either of the 3 CMC Lilianas though. The inability to protect itself with either an edict or shrinking an attacker does make it a little less appealing for me. This seems like more of a fun support walker for an archetype in the vein of Saheeli, Filigree Master. Seems pretty sick in a graveyard oriented cube.

I think if this weren't at 3 CMC I'd be more open to expanding to a 3rd walker slot in my black section (like I've done in white with Ajani, Outland Chaperone). If it were to sideline something it's probably LTLH, but that cards art is just so much better than smug Ral:

I'm in the same boat :/ As you mention, he can't protect himself and both of his worthwhile abilities are minuses, meaning he will likely be low on loyalty as you pass the turn.

It's tempting to run a third walker here, especially as a Dark Ritual target that isn't too oppressive. What's strange is that he has LotV's discard ability, LtLH's surveil and an upgraded version of her return to hand, but none of their protective powers.

Sorry for the double post, just saw another that’s pretty neat

What a great (self) mill card. Pseudo Brain Freeze on a one drop is pretty busted. Also a wizard for those interested.

Has me reconsidering cutting most of my instant/sorcery support in favour of noncreature payoffs.

Gonna double-post your double-post. I think this card is pretty sweet and can turn Thassa's Oracle or milling out an opponent into legit win conditions. I don't think there are a whole lot of spells in my cube to trigger the mill 10 option, but I do like the idea of a nearly blind wombo-combo via Living Death in a U/B Graveyard deck in the mid-game. There are definitely wonky late game sequences where you could chain something into a Treasure Cruise and really go nuts with it.

Man, some of these are absolutely perfect for the weird cube project I'm hyperfocusing on right now, especially that self-mill one-drop and the black troll guy who can cast Reanimate. Hopefully they won't be good in Commander or Modern or Two-Headed Tiny Pioneers or whatever.

Oh hey, they made a more playable version of Epic.

Evolve based off of spell costs feels really appropriate for Quandrix. I also like how WotC is experimenting with mechanics that work nicely kicking or splicing stuff onto spells.

I'm warming up to prepared. Also, I'll fully admit that this is what played through my head when I saw this card.
