    Card/Deck The Boros Legion (RW)

Yeah Showdown is a bomb in KHM limited - even when you "miss" you draw like 1-2 cards, some land drops, and put 2-3 +1/+1 counters however you like. Rarely you get to cast something on the same turn (which is its big drawback, doing nothing immediately), but the following turn is wild, and the...

Nah, flying on the aura and on the token is super relevant. Mogi's Warhound isn't terrible, but it's pretty different from Griffin Guide and not necessarily better. Yeah, that +2/+0 pump would be garbage in a card by itself, but when it comes with another 3/1 for 1R, it means you can...

    Card/Deck The Azorius Senate (WU)

Migratory Route has been very strong, but to the point I'm probably cutting it. Flying tokens are really hard to deal with, so it's a board wipe check when not under pressure. I'm trying to lower the speed of my environment, which will make it significantly better still. Thinking of Ojutai's...

    General [STX] Strixhaven Spoilers

One day, it'll be "Enters: fetch a tiny thing." The commands seem a little too generic to me. Maybe they'll make more sense when we know the lore better.

This was one of the best cards in Tinkerer's Cube, and reach greatly contributed to that. Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar

General Revisiting Aristocrat Environments: Things that don't mind dying

I'm looking for a replacement for Helm of Possession as a colorless sacrifice outlet. It's a card that's pretty hard to beat, when someone actually takes the time to read it. The thing is, I'm not sure any of the options are good enough for my cube. I'm looking at: Altar of Dementia...

Why do you like it particularly, Train? I was toying with the idea of playing Doomskar as the only foretell card, and explicitly saying so, so that it is, you know, actually foretold when it's foretold. Kinda surprised they didn't go for that. Giving out the information that you have a wrath in...

Day of Judgment Fumigate I would like to bump Day of Judgment to 5 mana, so Fumigate seems like an appropriate replacement, but I'm not sure it's actually worse when aggro decks aren't so fast. Which is stronger?

    General Self-Sufficient Tribal Payoffs

Crystalline Giant is pretty fun on Arena, hopefully the randomization and counters aren't too burdensome for paper magic. It's quite good, too - first block is with one counter, first attack is with two counters, and at that size all counter types are relevant (though trample is the worst).

    General Self-Sufficient Tribal Payoffs

Yeah, vampires were noted in Ixalan draft for being a tribe which didn't reward you so much for going deep into the tribe, but for building a generic WB deck with some vampire synergies. The key common payoff was Anointed Deacon, which worked well with Bishop's Soldier and Skymarch Aspirant. Not...

Really? I don't understand how - simply giving indestructible saves your creature, but it can't make it kill more blockers unless they were relying on first strike or something like that. And punishing mid-combat removal sounds like the awesome type of blowout.

    General Self-Sufficient Tribal Payoffs

I spent so long staring at this Neheb trying to figure our what you wanted to scratch off it: Neheb, the Eternal Then I realized you meant: Neheb, the Worthy I don't think I had ever thought about running it by itself. Seems like a sweet card in BR Madness. I wrote about false...

Card/Deck Artifacts in Cube - Yes, but how?

Ok, you sold me on Stone Haven Pilgrim. I'll try it out! Some are, but a lot of it is based on clues, equipment and other artifacts, so that would be too narrow even in the right deck, I think.

Card/Deck Artifacts in Cube - Yes, but how?

Scratch that about Indomitable Archangel, I read it wrong. Thought it gave shroud to itself. I'm probably going to go with Rune of Sustenance instead, which is good with equipment. I can't shrug off the she protec she attac meme :D She looks pretty solid actually, I may give her a try...

    General Self-Sufficient Tribal Payoffs

0/3 bodies are generally not worth a card, see Phyrexian Walker. In general, a vanilla needs to have at least 2 power to be worth a card. It might be ok if you have a couple of treefolk or changelings in the cube because you can choose whether to draw a forest or a creature, but I don't think...

    Article Lessons from Kaldheim

About the archtype, I think it's bad. Some cards are good, some cards are bad, but everyone picks the good cards and the payoffs don't justify playing the mediocre ones unless you draft like three Vega, the Watcher, which doesn't happen often. Even then, it's fragile enough that you usually just...

    Article Lessons from Kaldheim

Yeah, I'd place runes in the 3rd quartile of the elegant cube's power level (having played them quite a bit in KHM but never in my cube). They won't be good enough for many cubes, but I meant to say they are strong enough to be included in low to middling cube power levels, especially if the...

    Card/Deck Low Power Card Spotlight

I had the same experience with Archivist, several years ago. It's really bad against aggro, and there's a pile of cards that are sweet in slower decks but you can only run a handful of them because they don't affect the board enough, and you have to interact with aggro. Thieving Magpie is an...

Why's everyone so high on Usher? Isn't the ability a bit mana inefficient in the first turns, and irrelevant in the following turns? Is it just because the alternatives are worse?
