Was it tapped? If not, you could have sacrificed it targeting itself.

It may not affect gameplay by itself but, considering the rarity distribution determines the sort of cards we can get, wasting red mythic slots on crap like this (when the commons certainly won't be any better...) won't do anything to boost red's quality as a colour.

But then the masses wouldn't get to crow about how good it is in EDH!

If you think manabases are bad in Standard atm, think back to SOM-ISD Standard where allied colours had buddy lands + fastlands (passable most of the time, still not great; even in UW Delver with Ponder/Probe/Thought Scour, hitting your secondary colour was difficult sometimes) and enemy colours...

It's clearly a sweet card, but suffers from the same problems as any other card like that i.e. if you took a Cube designed to support him and rigged your Sealed pool, he still wouldn't be reliably good.

Even though it might seem like Vintage is a good model for Cube because of the amount of restricted cards/singletons, the glue that holds decks together are the 4-ofs. Something like Billy's idea is probably necessary.
