Tec Edge was bad against Valakut though, it's rare that they would have to expose a Valakut early and the rest of their deck was basics, so you couldn't keep them from ramping until it was too late.
Theros gave us lots of exciting cards, as well as some deep and complex mechanics to play with; lost among all of that is the emergence of the most fearsome tribe Magic has ever seen. Wizards tries to support a block's themes by seeding the surrounding blocks with cards that tie into them...
Individual cards that ramp, like mana dorks, are in high demand but I don't think ramp is a distinct or necessary part of green's identity. As said above I view them as cards I put in my midrange deck, not planks of an archetype.
