Sam Black's my favourite writer/player because his mind works very differently from most people's and he expresses that in interesting ways. I remember this article in particular.
highly enlightening conversation with a former WotC type:
[00:45:07] Dom Harvey: I'm curious about the feedback process for Cube
how do they register whether a card is a 'good' choice or not
and how do they distinguish between 'people are drafting Cube because they like our Cube' and 'people...
Yeah, this is ultimately arbitrary. I give not a single fuck for singleton, but I don't like running custom cards outside of a custom set. There's no reason outside of my aesthetic taste, which is good enough for me and need not be good enough for anyone else.
Clearly it's a good card but how many decks can actually play it? If I'm in any two of G/W/U, am I really stretching into the third for War Monk? If I'm playing tricolour cards I want them to be stuff like Broodmate Dragon or Nicol Bolas, where I'm likely to have the right mana by the time I can...
Just received my order from CFB for 1k gold Dragon Shields (across the pond in 6 days, very impressive), so I can finally ditch these hideous and aging black UltraPros.
'in response to Splinter Twin/Karn Liberated/Birthing Pod, activate Martyr of Sands'
it's a 3-colour card that is rarely actually better than Kitchen Finks, which is like a 0.5 colour card
Follow-up question: 'how many of those people would never be invited to Cube if finding 6+ people weren't already hard enough as it is?'
Answer to OP question: never :(
The 'Watched Threads' tab at the top takes you to a list of unread watched threads but you can't edit it from there, you have to go into the labyrinthine depths of the personal preferences page.
That's my biggest gripe about (a certain person on/) MTGS - they love spouting statistics like 'you draw this before turn 4 in 52.4% of games' or 'this is the sixth most popular U/W card' and while I'm happy they can use a calculator, I don't care unless they can tell me what those mean.
