    General New Booster

I want to add something here: Maro and WotC of course have all the data and are undoubtably correct, but their goals might just be the same as ours (at least not as mine). I've played with enough friends who were overwhelmed by walls of text on cards (which is not exclusively a Magic problem)...

I feel that would make all the cubes very same-y though. I’d assume it’s most fun if you could choose your emblem yourself. You can insert your own weirdness. Picking a card with many directions/options would be part of the challenge

Based on all your crazy ideas, @LadyMapi , as well as the popularity of the Reading Rainbow Cube, I was wondering if it might be time for a new challenge/contest: Design a cube where you start the game with [insert card] in play Be it Pillar of Paruns, Revel in Riches or Demonic Rising: it...

Sets (WHO) Dr. Who Testing/Includes Thread

Ominous Cementary Always looking for fun, simple colorless cards. I see @Velrun just mentioned this, but I wonder why others don't? Removal on a land seems cubable enough! Only card for me though; I agree with others that there's just too much and too specific text here.

    Sudden Death Cube (1 life)

I updated the cube list! Mill shines here in the same way burn does: it's just very easy to do. Direct damage to the face is capped at 5 mana, so you just could assume the same for mill. Incremental mill is certainly possible: I used to run Drowned of Secrets and have been considering...

    Sudden Death Cube (1 life)

The main problem of anti-mill is that it quicky becomes anti-game. The only "anti-mill" card present right now is Mistveil Plains, which hasn't been a problem yet. (it's errata'd to come into play untapped) Power Play I've tested Power Play since to discussion above. So you give up a pick in...

    Article ChannelFireball: Microsealed

So my friend had a few draft boosters, so I suggested we tried this format! Few caveats: - we didn't have the special lands, because it was a bit impromptu, but the didn't feel necessary - I forgot the "you can search your sideboard when tutoring"-rule, but it didn't feel necessary either It...

Not really, but I do ellaborate on this philosophy whenever I can: - I update my cube thread sporadically, and am thinking about doing a writeup covering this topic. - I wrote a general synopsis on the complexity thread - I wrote some of my plans of the making cube approachable thread - I have...

If they ever would want to keep up with experienced players you're right If they want that though, the cube has served its purpose There are more cards with "Toxic" in standard than cards mentioning the "Upkeep" in standard. Lifelink and double strike add virtually no complexity, but their...

Most players I play with either played Magic a long time ago or play Yu-Gi-Oh / Hearthstone. If they play Magic, they do so with me, and play one-on-one cube (sometimes 3/4 player multiplayer). Even simple Magic cards are relatively complex compared to Hearthstone/Pokemon (I won't get into...

General Cubelets, Dandân, and other shared deck formats

Sharing a hand? Sorcery-speed things can only be cast during your turn, instant-speed things only on your opponent's turn, so every card can be played by only one player each turn. Faithless Looting becomes a whole different card in this context.

win/loss through decking isn't an option? I would just feel incentivized to stall the game in this manner until I feel like I've got an advantageous hand

Lists I saw had non-island lands, like Temples. But I cannot lose if I don’t play islands right?

Certainly. Get some lose some. I just never liked how I automatically win if I don't play any islands

I've been looking into a shared deck micro cube with this beauty: Vantress Gargoyle It might be a better fit than Dandân, because it actually interacts with the top of your library. The gargoyle also has seperate attack and defend clauses, so you can fiddle with both. It's an artifact which is...

General (LTR / LTC) Lord of the Rings Testing/Includes Mega Thread!

I'm still not sure if I want to add Universe Beyond cards, mostly because I dislike having two kinds of frames in my cube. Maybe they're visuallt close enough though. Chances are new Universe Beyond sets will come out that I like, which would make the decision easier. For no though, these 14...

Article Sink or Swim: Making Cube Approachable

I'm playing a lot more with newish Magic players than I used to. My Jeskai Cube has been simplified a bunch in 2022 and 2023, mirroring the mothods for that listed above. Right, now I'm working on a way to introduce new players to Magic with it, following these steps: 1. I'll make 3...
