    The Board Game Thread

Zimbabwe is much more approachable: it takes less time to teach, its easier to set up, it takes up less table space, it takes less time to play, there are fewer arithmetic calculations, the arithmetic calculations are easier, the number of cards in the game is much more manageable. . . its just...

    The Board Game Thread

No great new games to report from this year's gaming retreat. The best games I played were old favorites, lead by Imperial, Stephenson's Rocket, and The Great Zimbabwe. I played Food Chain Magnate twice and liked it. The game is nasty. In the second game I played, I set myself up for a huge...

I suppose the question is how often in your cube you have two decks that put almost no clock on each other face off. Lighthouse is ok. It sees occasional play out of the ULD. Sometimes it isn't good, but at least when its useless it still taps for mana.

Colonnade usually feels over the line. Treetop Village also. The rest are pretty cool. Tar Pit, Faerie Conclave, Raging Ravine, and Mishra's Factory are where I'd like the "strong manland" bar to be set most of the time. Shambling Vent and Stirring Wildwood hang nicely in that company. The...

Yeah, I for one know I underestimated that card. 3 mana is so much less then 4 its not funny. Costing 3 life and requiring a multicolor manabase is completely worth it to pull this far ahead. I'm playing Infernal Contract in my Legacy Death's Shadow deck and loving every minute of it. That card...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Whatever your dual is. In Chingo's example it was ABU duals (as the argument was eliminating fetches).

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Following this line of thought while also acknowledging the limitations, instead of having 3 of each of the 10 duals in the cube, one could have some number of"choice of dual land" slots.

I just took out the vast majority of my good stuff. That solved the whole good stuff issue nicely.

    FlowerSunRain's Cube

So, I need my cube at 576 cards for next week, just in case we actually have a 12 person draft, which looks possible. I'm at 573, but I'm a bit heavy on red and green cards and I'm pretty sure I'm ready to give up on Enduring Renewal. After trying the experiment that Ahadabans suggested...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

Its not really an argument, just an observation. Just because Wasteland has an opportunity cost doesn't mean that it isn't worth every penny. My cube has lots of really strong decks that use a very low curve, so even though those decks have to "pay" to include wasteland, it was a way more...

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

The lower and tighter your mana becomes, the more of a opportunity cost wasteland takes. Of course the decks that are best suited to take advantage of wasteland are (besides slow, durdly decks with Loam or whatever) decks with low, tight mana. These decks are running as few mana sources as...

I'm not really into this idea. I like all the unfiltered viewpoints mashed together. I can't count how many times someone has said something thought provoking BECAUSE it was "off-topic" that wouldn't have come out if things were segregated. But its a pretty large number.

General When Is Fixing Too Good?

I cut wasteland because it helped the stronger decks in my environment beat on the weaker ones, but for what its worth I liked how the card played. Related: Why do we want to "check" splashes? If this is an intrinsic part of the format, why not just let it happen?

Anyone who is saying this is "Another Shitty Chandra" is drunk. First, because Chandra, Pyromaster isn't shitty. Second, because this card is amazing. Really unique niche. Three abilities that can be used right away. She's like a charm, except on a six mana, game winning permanent.

Not only that, it blocks 2/Xs and takes down X/2s, so the "Just overrun them" plan is pretty much out the window. It stays on the board, so you can't "avoid overextending" into it like you can Pyroclasm or Wrath effects. It also gives your burn game against X/4s and X/5s. The drawback is real...

Dead Weight has been good to me. I remember paralyze being pretty good a long time ago, but that was when utility creatures mostly didn't exist. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Tithe, Gift of Estates, Land Tax and Oreskos Explorer all put the land into your hand. The only one that actually ramps is Knight of the White Orchid. So, its less ramp and more card advantage.
