The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

I'm not sure if my post got deleted, but I was saying two things: 1. Tinker isn't a fair card in itself, while transmute is much closer fair card, which is in itself a really interesting concept to think about for this type of affect. 2. Transmute is also interesting in the directionality that...

Here is fair tinker Transmute Artifact Oracle text for those that don't want to burn out there eyeballs Sacrifice an artifact. If you do, search your library for an artifact card. If that card's converted mana cost is less than or equal to the sacrificed artifact's converted mana cost, put...

Yeah, I've enjoyed it as a fun puzzle. Most alt. win conditions are gimmicks, while this one at least reasonable. It also gives an incentive for a person to draft a control deck not about winning by turning creatures sideways, which is nice.

Did you change your list? I see both counterspell and jace aot. U/w countrol/midrange looks perfectly viable. You could run the card in any white based control deck. Its just a really good win con for control.

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Oh yeah, you're super right. I had it in for a few test drafts, but the theme already existed strong enough where I felt it was a redundent include. Part of the issue was you would end up with trash for treasure in red, and than body double and tinker in blue, ontop of stuff like hammer of...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

I would say they are too very different cheat cards. Trash/Treasure is for when you want to move fair reanimation out of black, and create a more conditioned version of it in red. Its basically a bad version of an already fair black strategy, that you run in some formats for a variety of...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Some thoughts about busted cards. For the first time, I thought I would drop this guy in: Tinker Fair tinker has been a discussion topic on the board for years, with the usual problem being how do you get cubable enablers, and threats that don't end the game but justify the setup time. The...

    Retro Combo Cube

I think those catagories that that guy came up with are fine, but shouldn't dictate, or hold back design. Its a cube interested in tolerating unfair combos, but you still are looking for a core of flexible picks that can be skewed to fit into an archetypal direction. And cards like doomwake...

I don't actually like your mono-black deck at all; your black section is badly contructed, to the point where in order to win it needs to draw upon a critical density of black cards. I started doing some test drafts, forcing black decks, and found it fairely miserable, throwing all of them away...

For what its worth, when you asked me what a reasonable thoughtseize varient would be for me, maybe thats mez. fiend. I mean, the card is all kinds of terrible as a discard spell vs. thoughtseize: 2 mana, tempo play rather than pernament hand removal. Maybe I'm more interested in cheap...

Thats actually a really good point. I've been running some of the army in a can zombie creating sorceries, and thats enough to provide the critical mass for tribal synergies. I've also found that the case with artifact token makers and metalcraft or other mechanics that care about critical mass...

It wasn't a comparison. It was an example of how overly rigid heuristics for evaulating cards can be misleading. I already know that you dislike the card, and don't want to consider that duress on an evasive body could be playable, or even acknowledge the validy of contexts where the ETB and...

The Penny Pincher Cube 2.0--Inventors' Fair

Made a few swaps earlier in the week to see how drafters would react to them. Briefly took molten vortex out, which I don't think is a great card, and replaced it with kari zev, skyship raider, which I do think is a great card. For some reason, Kari was not being picked, which seems very odd...

Yeah thats cool. In your defense, one of the tricky things about posting on this forum is that its harder to apply those standard conceptual frameworks in evaulating cards. Its always best to try to figure out the context from where the poster is coming from, because we tend to experiment with...

What pulls it even further apart, from a low power context, is that one of the most popular low power archetypes you can support is UB ninjas, which is the premier tempo deck you can run, and absurdly fun. That deck really wants 2cc flyers with a relevent ETB effect, to both carry the ninja in...

There are format contexts where a 1/2 flyer is a good body. In fact, a 1/1 evasive body, with decent abilities, can be really powerful in low powered formats. Here is a card I've been running for years, and has consistently been great. Scryb Ranger Many an opponent has died to a...
