    Sets AEther Revolt Spoilers

Its an amazing mana sink. It fills the same role that cards like endless one fill, while actually contributing to an environment, rather than being boring vanilla curve fillers. Great card in general, and really great for cube, where gaps in the mana curve is more of an issue.

    General Mana Sinks

Yeah, the cheaper it is the better. Cantrips also. For our purposes though mana sinks are nice to fill those lulls in the game, or to help address negative variance from mana flood.

    Article ChannelFireball: Utility Land Draft

Yeah, gavony is good enough for a gold slot in the main cube. Its a really hard permanent to answer, and if you have a board state with a couple turns it tends to just win the game. Treetop village is also deserving of a main cube slot.

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Speaking of seal of fire and similar effects. renegade rallier I wish sun titan was a little less "I win the game now," because the triggered ability on it is really cool. You can create some pretty amazing lines of play getting back an animate dead and so forth.

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

Even before we go into cheap removal in other colors, as regards just bounce (leaving out control magic effects etc), these are cards that I would be looking at as contributing to that density: reflector mage man-o'-war venser, shaper savant vapor snag remand memory lapse snap cryptic command...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

I think though some of the unhealthiness he describes can be replicated in cube. Sure you don't have multiple copies of git probe, but there are lots of cheap bounce, counters, and man-o'-war clones to supplement that single copy of reflector mage, for example. It just depends on how many...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

I think we have to keep in mind too that cube is a purely casual format, so its easier to justify high variance cards. I also think there is quite a bit of de facto redundancy in cube lists that can quietly frame a format. Accidental density of Signets, bouncelands, ramp, fetchlands, ETB...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

The big factor to keep in mind is this analysis from owen turtenwald about why the reflector mage ban was healthy for standard. The relevant part starts at 14:30 Sorry for making you watch part of a youtube video, but this is a really concise explanation of the problem with otherwise...

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

The framing as a narrow ophidion seems kind of miserable. I kind of feel like the tutoring has to win the game to justify all of the trouble. Eldrazi Conscription Like you're basically a combo-control deck in Esper

Card/Deck How to execute a minimalist Enchantment theme

The main problem with zur is that he costs 4 (color complex) mana and has to land an attack. You don't want this to be a situation where the interaction in the cube makes drafting and simply resolving zur a game losing mistake.

    Min/Max Midrange Cube Experiment

I think signets get an unreasonable amount of hate. Yes, they frame a format, but every format has to be defined by something at some point. As long as you are aware of the impact the cards have, and engineer the format to take into account their existence, you should be fine. What you want to...

    Min/Max Midrange Cube Experiment

Also, might as well but the GB +1 +1 counters deck on the docket. After looking through Dom's post, these are the cards that seem most suitable to me: Reyhan, last of the abzan lotleth troll yahenni, undying partisan carrion feeder The cuts get pretty miserable though. In my heart of...

    Min/Max Midrange Cube Experiment

Thank you, that was really awesome. The penny cube is 11% colored fixing from lands and is fine, but that format is also designed for slower starts and gets an additional 6 fixers from its eggs. I also can't help but feel that bouncelands are important to the analysis, since players are...

    Min/Max Midrange Cube Experiment

Its ok, I went waaaay off topic. I don't think I would say there was ever a resolved consensus. Probably more that a majority has a preference closer to Karsten's numbers, while a sizable minority disagrees, to various extents and degrees. i.m.o you want somewhere from 11-13% fixing from...

Yeah, I don't see why it would be a problem. They just choose a different name for the card in italian, which they do whenever things don't translate smoothly. Pronunciation is different too.
