    First budget cube

If you want to see a very polished budget list I have one in my sig. As for black 2 drops, there are a ton of great options if you are budget: augur of skulls bloodthrone vampire nightscape familiar oona's prowler ravenous rats zulaport cutthroat blood artist mardu skullhunter knight of...

The only problem is that those deck end up playing and feeling like midrange decks, which brings us back around to that good stuff problem. Control decks shouldn't be about generating raw value, they should be about devaluing an opponent's card through actual card advantage and through virtual...

General PWs to Cut and UR spells to run

With the multi-color sections it was actually really hard to find three cards from each guild that weren't complete bullshit that could operate at a higher power level. In R/W The three most passable cards are lightning helix, figure of destiny, and boros reckoner. Dimir is pretty bad too, but...

Blade splicer, resto angel, sun titan. I kind of feel dirty for all of those suggestions though; I might as well have typed kitchen finks to top it off.

My top five are Chromatic Star Mangara of Corondor monastery swiftspear oona's prowler niv-mizzet, the firemind All of those break $3, accept for chromatic star which is somehow almost $5. This has me almost wanting to cut swiftspear now, as its not particularly good in cube.

General PWs to Cut and UR spells to run

Its so difficult to find non-narrow sources of artifact hate to run in cube that I think he's worth a try.

The U/R slot is pretty sparse for higher power formats. I was looking for powerful nudge cards in the list I submitted, and still ended up including proc. bolt. However, I've heard good things about duplicate, so maybe that is a choice?

    General Cube Drafting on MODO

If you are doing this as a marketing initiative for the site, I'm not sure how good of an idea it is to start putting sudden budget limits on the cube. You're going to be competing with CF's normal MODO cube content, and the legacy cube's power level is already about the same as yours. You...

    General Cube Drafting on MODO

I think the relationship would stay the same. Most of those cards are still cheaper online, with a few exceptions that I don't run in the list: e.g. daze. I'm guessing it would come out to about $100 to build online, which is just hilariously cheap.

    Article CubeTutor Champion Contest

er...I already started toying with the list I submited because its 352 rather than 360, but you can have at it I suppose. I would rather have a discussion of the lists rather than critiques. I have a few opinions I would like to solicite to make the cube better, and there is a lot of...

    General Cube Drafting on MODO

With modern decks, I find that the MODO price is usually about half of what the R/L price is, so I would estimate most riptide cubes to be around 1-2k based on the date we were sharing when champion was released.

Card/Deck Giving Control that sweet loving

One of the things thats struck me so far about modern is how "good stuff" midrangy a lot of the decks feel, even decks that aren't being given proper midrange designations. I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose, as there is a certain level of strategic overlap: both decktypes tend to focus on...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

There are a bunch of black enchantments that they printed, which do the same thing, but I'm not sure how much fun/good they are. This is that kind of effect, but on a stick, and I'm not sure how to evaluate it. There really aren't good black one or two drops that facilitate both attacking...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Thanks guys, two more cards I would like some opinions on: Oona's blackguard cunning lethemancer The first as a way to approach the discard problem by rolling it up as a sub theme of the counters decks. The second as to whether it has any play to it in a black based aggressive/midrangish...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

boom // bust The trick with the card being to target a fetch and crack it in response. Since we are already ok with land destruction in certain guises, I was wondering if this also might play a role in pressuring high curve decks. You don't want to fill up your red section with stone rain...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Its just a question of how you feel about negative variance. Thoughtseize is the better card because it generates a certain percentage of free wins when it hits weak hands or mulligans. I'm not sure its better at producing compelling games of magic, however. Thoughtseize also can easily slot...

Yeah, I would be really curious if anyone has tried this with a tinker package. My inner johnny also wants to see the goggles in action with: nivmagus elemental Probably terrible, but oh so sweet.

General Great Games of Magic (Videos)

I think the best dredge video I've seen is this VSL video Game three is the most interesting game, with Tom navigating a lot of sideboard hate. Though I think a dredge deck won that legacy open you posted, so there might be something worth watching there?

    Card/Deck Fair Tinker

I think its possible, with people starting to be more critical of planeswalkers it gives both control and midrange decks more room to grow. I think mindslaver can work, but the blue tron deck can sometimes win cames just by recurring o-stone, or titan, or wormcoil. Its the inevitability that...

    Card/Deck Fair Tinker

Thats why I suggested pairing it with recursive elements, so it plays a bit like the blue tron decks in modern. Have it be an actual deck archetype that tinker happens to be a part of rather than a build around. I think thats the main design mistake with it: tinker is thought of a bad build...
