General Great Games of Magic (Videos)

SCGNJ - Legacy - Round 9 - Eli Kassis vs Charles Hagaman This one is for game three, which starts at 31:08. The whole game is good, but builds to a crazy finale at around 47:00. Somedays you just run well, really well. SCGLA - Legacy - Round 3 - Gregory Hatch vs Chris Kapica What...

General Great Games of Magic (Videos)

Few of these I wanted to share. SCGDET - Legacy - Quarterfinals - Thomas Herzog vs Ben Wienburg This is probably my favorite match of magic. Both games are incredible, but its game 2 that really is amazing. SCGDC - Legacy - Round 5 - James Rynkiewicz vs Brian Braun-Duin Watch this for...

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

That makes more sense, though the way you are approaching the card still seems a little off to me. Describing it as a "convoluted way to generate 7 mana on turn four" dosen't feel right. These formats are slower in general, and the deck it goes into plays like a tron deck, so leveraging large...

Actual testing. I've been running those untap effects since I built the format. I think you're forgetting the context: its just another ramp strategy.

Both reasons. It's either generating mass mana with land untap creatures, or its giving you a lot of control over your draws in a generally slower format. On top of that, its a difficult to interact with enchantment.

    Sets Battle for Zendikar Spoilers

I generally don't like the landfall mechanic, but retreat to coralhelm is a very strong card in a bounceland format. It was strong enough where I opted not to run it. Retreat to kazundu is nice as a source of life gain for b/g life pay decks, and also works well in bant counter based strats...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

I don't think there is anything wrong with running it as more of a bant theme, that can give you more focused ug theme. There are some fun ug cards that have that "grow" style of play built into them.

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

Isn't the easiest solution to this to just limit the +1 +1 counters theme to U/G?

    General Draft Strategy

The reason you guys hate 6 mana elspeth is because she is a varient of moat. I don't know about wildfire; card seems fine to me, and much weaker than elspeth.

    Card/Deck Fair Tinker

hmmm....well if thats the case, than: oblivion stone perilous vault pyromancer's goggles mindslaver spine of ish sah sharding sphinx duplicant I think you kind of need targets though that will semi-lock up the game. Due to the investment that tinker requires, its a terrible tool box...

Card/Deck Swords to Plowshares too good for my cube?

Its not really an issue for me but no, I don't run it. With low power environments, you don't have the same heavy top end, so aggro decks have room to spread out and be more versatile. Black 2-3 drops, in particular, can shift very easily between disruptive aggression or controling roles, and...

Card/Deck Swords to Plowshares too good for my cube?

Speaking for myself, it kind of sucks that so much of the black 1-2 drops in higher power formats can't block. It creates this weird void in the section where 2/3 of the major deck types can't venture, places a heavy burden on the rest of the creature section (I hate vampire nighthawk but you...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

I like telling time, but you kind of need to be in a spot where ponder or preordain are too good to run it imo. Cheap bounce seems like really good interaction when you have ramped out monsters backed up by soft counters. I can see what you guys mean though when you say there isn't a lot to...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

I would think the gold cards. I always thought the deck came together rather naturally, as blue cantrips and card draw provide a solution, or at least mitigating factor, for late game mana dork or ramp draws (also, this is where the tol manipulation is valuable). Is it more an issue that the...

    Card/Deck The Simic Combine

Its also awkwardly placed for a lot of ripetide cubes. Simic is legit great in a low power format with bounces, and feels exhilararting to play as a formats sort-of-tron deck. At higher power you can run a bunch of green etb monsters with blue disruption and have a "smart monsters" deck...
