    General Custom Cards: The Lab

Leorian also has the "wording oddity" of "reveal from your library" where you probably mean search but don't want to say it. Relying on the player to write things down would not work in groups I've played with, maybe it works for you. Explicitly referring to keywords just feels wrong from a...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I'm really not sure where I'm going with this, but I'm revamping my tricolor section and this was one thought I had for esper. Definitely needs some work and testing. I want esper to get some proliferate that goes in control, and that seemed like maybe a direction to go with it. I don't...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I'm not really considering this adding customs, since I'm just printing what the card actually does. I'll see how this goes over with the group next time. I was going to do Council's Judgment, but then I decided that the opponent getting to remove a harmful permanent was worth keeping, and it...

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I decided to do something about the extra text on Magister of Worth and Coercive Portal. There is a corner case with Emrakul, the Promised End where the vote could agree, but I think it's worth it for the cleaner text.

We played with the London mulligan rule in our draft today. Mulligans felt much less punishing, and putting cards back was a big decision point right at the start of the game. First impression was very favorable.

Conventional wisdom is that partial mulligans break the game, and I'm inclined to believe that applies even more so in cube. That would wildly throw off the value of combos and push good starts too hard. My inclination would be to go back to our schoolyard days and allow free all-land and...

Sure, that makes seems if you're playing EDH with your boss who you're trying to butter up, or with small children or newbies. Aside from name-calling, if you try to articulate why the player should keep their promise when you don't have an enforcement mechanism, it is just going to come down...

I strongly disagree. When you're playing a game, you are expected to make the play that maximizes your odds of winning that game. If you deviate from that in an implicit exchange for future good will in other games, you're not really playing the game anymore. As a corollary, if you relied on...

    General The Draft Exchange

I thought Dawn of Hope required too much mana before it did anything, especially for a deck like this. It doesn't work as a draw engine if I don't have any life gain going, which means it's not a great recovery tool. Even when I do have life gain going, the mana investment is going to hurt...

Drafted Ravnic's casual cube. First picked Captain of the Watch, got an early Nantuko Shade, and went after tokens and recursion where possible. Picked up Blood Artist and Carrion Feeder at the start of pack 2. I picked up a fair amount of incidental life gain, but stayed away from the life gain...

    General Fight Club

5 mana 3/2 is pretty bad,. Looking at Aston's main cube, I think Blade Juggler without a guaranteed Spectacle would be a very low pick in general. Between the two, I think Rager is the strongest card, but not that exciting when the are a lot of interesting black 3s out there.

Sweet deck! You can see pretty clearly that tall Gruul is an archetype I'm pushing, and you put together a very good version. My drafters haven't really played it successfully in a while, and I'm happy to see it come together nicely.

Winter Orb + Opposition really good. I should probably pick up an Eternal Masters Winter Orb for the untapped text. Threads keys on cmc instead of power; I'd probably sideboard Shackles with 5 islands including fetches. Drafting Sharzad, I first picked Counterspell, then took Clique. Went...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think the "free value" aspect of conspiracies (hidden agendas, at least) is way overblown, and really a product of shortcutting thinking about them. In any draft, the value of a high pick is the difference between the pick and what you would have to play instead. So to evaluate the power level...

    General The Draft Exchange

Drafting Rowan_CB's low powered budget cube, which is about all I know going in. First pick Rakdos Cackler because it's a high powered aggro card. Second pick Marionette Master because it looks like a high potential build around that could top out a deck that wants Cackler. I try to follow it...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I'm a big fan of conspiracies in general, mostly for the "it could only happen in cube" factor. Of the ones in that list, they're mostly on the "useful but balanced" end of the scale. Summoner's Bond, though, is probably too strong for you. In a cube with some duplicate creatures like Crumble...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Unless your cube is already very squadron-heavy, I think that would make your games feel too same-y. I'd be wary of any 4-of proactive card.

    General Custom Cards: The Lab

I don't think I've posted one of my longest surviving customs here. That's how I support storm without running parasitic cards or forcing an all-or-nothing draft. Would probably be broken if I ran more rituals and free spells, but it has the right amount of support to be at the level I want.

    General The Draft Exchange

Drafted whobetta's 540. I first picked Hanweir Garrison on simple power level, then took Young Pyro and went into black on Thoughtseize. I did not see enough proactive spells to make Young Pyro and Guttersnipe work; the instants and sorceries are just not suited for an aggressive deck. I also...

    General Unstable Spoiler Unthread

Sword of D&D is basically a cheaper, stronger Moonsilver Spear, which I cut a while ago because it didn't do enough for its cost. I would give Sword of D&D a shot for sure if I decide how to handle a "gold" token. My cube has 13 rogues/clerics -- 3 white, 4 blue, 4 black, 1 red, and 1...
