    General The Alter Thread

Making pitiful profits off the cards you are altering is also demoralizing, since your time costs money, your materials cost money, art school if applicable costs money. You just make the opposite journey as starting low, but get payed a value that is actually worth your input value. Most...

point is, you aren't going to give a main archetype exactly 23 cards it can pull from and that's it. It would be hard to do that anyways with how many multipurpose and flexible cards there are. Because of that, on-theme Lessons aren't necessarily taking away from draft complexity at all, and...

I didn't see skeleton key making many waves around here when it came out, so not sure that Zephyr Boots makes much more impact than that. Flying is generally better than Skulk overall, but still.

    General The Alter Thread

Always start high for something like an alter. Almost no mtg card alterer is going to generate enough volume to really benefit from a loss-leading strategy, all they'll get is missed revenue potential and potential undervaluation of skill/time invested. High-low is standard practice across...

    Sets (STX) Strixhaven Testing/Includes Thread

One can't necessarily cut the "extra" cards that a drafter ends up with. Those are archetype redundancies that you need for a smoother draft. In the former case you would be replacing some of those with lessons that fill a similar role for that deck (but are now lessons). I don't see many...

Ruxa is a strong Token Lord, it's just a shame the first ability is basically flavor text in most cubes. And to be clear, they are only a token lord for actually vanilla tokens. Soldiers with vigilance, or birds with flying, etc. don't get the bonuses.

Skyclave Shade's kicker can also present it as a stronger threat late game than the always-2/1 of Bloodghast. Haste doesn't help much against a 2/4 blocker, but a 5/3 body smashes past it. This is in support of one each. Bloodghast can certainly be stronger in other situations.

And Banish is an instant! Hanna is very good.... in EDH. Not a card I would strongly consider for cube.

Rionya, fire dancer + Aurelia, the Warleader? That works, right? Unless "beginning of combat" has some nitpickiness about it that it doesn't trigger on additional combat phases. Just keep saccing the already used Aurelias But yeah, definitely less abusable than Kiki-Jiki

What about phyrexian triniform? Very similar execution without the ability pile, and with a long shot self-reanimation mode

    General Nega-Cube on Magic Online

From what I remember reading the draft bot methodology article, community-based ELO plays heavily in their decision making. This would naturally lead bots to being less functional when faced with a non-typical cube like the black cube, and could play a part into why certain cards quickly "lose...

Also it can surely be a removal check. It's usually going to be bigger than 20/20, and you can't always chump for long or at all, depending on the situation.

I'm planning on running both. They fill pretty different roles, or, can fill very similar roles but tend to fill them pretty differently from each other. Flash on the gearhulk tends to make it's play style pretty distinct. Also, it's really playing poorly? Any deck running it should have at...

This is a really nice unknown shores variant. I already like Unknown Shores almost enough to run it, and this adds a third ability that can shine in a spells deck, but still come in handy in any deck that has removal/draw/etc.
