Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

Yeah, I've been saying the same thing, but thats a boring route to go down. Randy's description when going over the deck helps explain why the upset occured. The creatures being run in the deck just work very well with haste. Flametongue kavu is a strong card, but becomes much better when you...

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

I did a quick gatherer search for higher power cards that are solid but become much better with fires in play, it only turned up a few, unimpressive results. There is curse of predation, kessig cagebreakers (which actually becomes much better wtih haste, but isn't a gruul card), flamerush...

    Card/Deck Vamps

No, you are probably right to cut it. The {B}{B} on a 2/1 is going to tunnel vision someone on monoblack aggro. Better to either have a more flexible hate card or a more flexible aggro beater. Its kind of funny they were running captivating vampire though in a cube that big.

Card/Deck Making Gruul do more than stompy, or make stompy Gruul more interesting?

So...after watching Fires beat jund, (did not think that was ever going to happen), it made me think maybe we are missing something about this fires deck. The idea behind it is to run ramp + fires + creatures that are decent on their own, but substantially better with fires (e.g blastoderm...

    Card/Deck Vamps

All of those swaps look great. Little surprised at the necropotence inclusion though, and I kind of like hexmage to kill planeswalkers. Out because of the {B}{B}? Never noticed there were running stromkirk captain, which is pretty bad.

They haven't finished it. Memory jar is still in it. I'm hoping either delver or necro beats it.

    Card/Deck Vamps

I don’t think we are actually disagreeing. We both want to increase the fun of the game, and in order to do that you need to be persuasive to the people in positions of authority to effect the necessary change. As you noted, a perception of jarring misogyny, distracts from the overall message...

    Card/Deck Vamps

Usually when you are debating with someone, its futile to actually try to change their mind. Even if you score some crushing points on them, and make utter fools of them, they will just sort of move on and hope that no one notices. And thats because you are not actually debating to change that...

Yeah, Randy acknowledges that the other necro decks weren't particularly fun combo decks. Most of the cards in it just seem so bad, but it gets there. The matchup of necro v. academy is great. Its also cool to see the unholy splendor that is memory jar in action. I think delver is going to...

Black summer necro wasn't a combo deck. It was basically a black weenie deck that played an attrition gameplan and than used necropotence to refill.

Yeah, it really shows how lopsided power levels were with some of those decks. The old black summer necro deck though is really impressive, and I would not have expected it to do as well as it has been.

Haven't seen anyone mention this, but thought it was pretty neat. Randy Buehler has been doing a "gauntlet of greatness series" where he lined up 16 of the most powerful (re: degenerate) decks from standards history. Here is the playlist First seed is tolarian academy vs. psychatog

General What other formats do you use your cube for?

Here you go. Haven't tried it myself, but it looks fun in those types of situations.

General What other formats do you use your cube for?

Oh, I didn't realize that was an issue. We've always done just regular drafts regardless of the format (cube, retail draft) and number of people. Usually it works out (though some retail draft formats are terrible at this, and sometimes in cube you will have a color basically go undrafted)...

General What other formats do you use your cube for?

Free-for-all multiplayer is pretty much all I've had work in those instances. If you do anything else, the 3rd person really has nothing to do, and at least this way everyone is engaged. You might want to take out any and all wrath effects, however, since otherwise the games can bog down to...

    [Feedback/Tuning] SOMROE (Fantasy Set)

Yeah, I'm curious to know how your players feel about those aggro-combo decks. I have them over here, but those types of interactions have only really come up once so far, with fabled hero dealing something like 18 damage in one attack. I'm not really sure what to think about supporting the...

Really nice. What did you think of that black deck's aggro combo plan with the infect creatures + howels? It looks powerful.

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

My concern was more that it could mill valuable pieces and set your back, your card quality is just so high I'm not sure you need it. Though it probably wouldn't hurt you too badly in all but the worst scenarios: remember the fallen gets back a milled cloud of faeries, and archaeomancer gets...

    The Penny Pincher Cube (360)

When I first looked at it, I think I had your initial reaction that it looks a bit unfocused, and thats probably because of the green (but in retrospect, you could make a case for fertile ground). I figured you could win games off of technical ability. I've seen decks similar to this do very...
