I think the problem for me, is that Spawning and Cagebreakers are about it in terms of "interesting" cards that use a variation of that mechanic. It definitely could be a cool mechanic depending on how they execute it, but the precedent isn't the best..

Rakdos used counters in the last Ravnica, and gruul in Rav 1. So it still stands that there is future potential for the +1/+1 portion of the mechanic meaning more once the other half of mechanics are revealed.

That is true, but Battalion is narrower and harder to balance, I think, and I can imagine in the next set we might get some more tie-in to +1/+1 themes. Or not, and they just did it for Laffs :rolleyes:.

I like mentor more than most boros/RW mechanics. Fusion of "attacking" and +1/+1 themes could lead to some interesting stuff. Also gets some token theme in the mix. Echoes Jason's sentiment. Tokens can be a pretty natural bridge between the boros and selesnya mechanics, so I really do dig how...

Surveillance is generally constant observation of a place or person to gather information, which could include spying I suppose. It's a very cool mechanic, and I do think that it's a good flavor fit for Dimir, albeit a little different than we've seen before.

Jump-start, depending on their balancing of course, has extremely high abuse potential. And is extremely interesting for me and my GY format Surveil too, now that I think of it!!

FWIW, overload is higher on the storm scale than replicate, at a 6. I personally think overload is slightly more useable, because balancing a spell that can be cast N times is tricky. Didn't know rift was 20 bucks???? sigh. MTG market has been going a little wild the past couple years.
