    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I like it a lot. It makes a lot of main decks, and it is largely as a simple variance-reducer, with niche applications with like Trinket Mage.

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

Another issue in lower powered cubes is that finding a PW doesn't usually advance a plan, it just gets you a PW. Most lower powered cubes are archetype driven aan this doesn't really do much for that (outide Daretti and a couple others). Compare to academy rector Which can grab a variety of...

    Card/Deck Single Card Spotlight

I think it's actually worse outside of powered cubes, both for the reason that lower power cubes often have fewer/zero walkers, and because they often are more combat based and therefor better suited to answer PWs. As long as you aren't running, like, Ugin etc.

This is in fact exactly why they did the black at the bottom like this. But not for human benefit; they did it so automated printing/sorting systems could read the pertinent info more clearly.

As to set symbol, just like Scryfall search lingo, not everyone has the energy or desire to remember all of them. I can't type the set symbol for Scourge into google, but I can type "C18 MTG" thanks to the M15 border and google will happily help me find out it's for Commander 2018. Especially...

I'm simply giving you reasons that people (including me) don't like the old frame, which is basically what you were looking for. I would guess that the majority of players prefer the modern borders, which is why they switched: it's just a better graphic design. Practically, Set can definitely...

    General Speculation-Thread

Background looks messier, text and art boxes smaller, almost no relevant technical info at the bottom, title and type line harder to read (on some older cards it can be very hard to read), not all cards available with the old frame so you end up with a mixed border deck/field. I would like the...

No love for the Future Sight frames huh? I do like the new frames, except I'm not sure how I feel about the new frame being applied to split cards (very boxy):

General Sifting, looting, card quality across the color pie

I think it's also important to consider the colorless section when addressing draw smoothing, scrying, etc. These cards are available to any color combo, should it fit into the deck: Mishra's bauble chromatic star treasure map crystal ball Also, a fun and rather unique card in {B} that also...

That's the way I see it. The body can be much more useful for this kind of deck. A slower spells deck doesn't really need to blast out 2/2's off of an abysmal non-etb body.

Depending on the Curve of a "Spells" type deck in a given format, this seems really good? Geart blocking body, and flying tokens are the Bees Knees. See: Emeria Angel

I really dig Dismissive Pyromancer. I can see myself finally swapping out the Abbot of Keral Keep for him; discard is just so much more relevant to me.

    Sigh, a Cube

I updated the OP with a more up-to-date take on the guilds and shards/wedges, and added missing three color combos! It's a little approximate, since I am working off of knowledge and drafts from several months ago.

You are right that blue is definitely spoiled, so it's really important to be careful with blue's draw cards, lest they start defining the format. One card that I think is just peachy: search for azcanta In multicolor (and I know it's a little controversial to include this kind of "supporting"...

That izzet card is just a common though? The one rare we've seen is fairly well costed. Being able to discard any card makes balancing very tricky, so I can honestly not fault them if they end up being a little conservative in the end.

I find Chart to be an extremely on-the-nose power draw spell in a lot of formats. It doesn't incentivize you to play the GY angle, it incentivizes the attack. And it's very easy to hit the condition, even in non-attacking decks. When you try to de-power blue draw to let other colors shine (like...

I'm a fan of this little think twice variant! Lower power for sure, but I like cheap discard outlets built onto cantrips.

I linked the blue card because it shows the Oracle text for Jump-Start. Those other cards are really cool too!
